This fella delivers meat for a living and says how meat half the time can’t even be identified , only by weights of pallets etc, and says most sites won’t let you take pictures of the state of the places it comes from, is this a common thing or is this just a very rare case■■?
Hi all.I think if people knew the truth about what goes on within the transport chain from producer to customer in the food industry we would all be dead from hunger as there would be nothing fit to eat.Ask any international fridge driver.
In the mid 80s when i was working for a Dutch co we had to load 2 trucks from a cold store in Vlissingen. We loaded frozen beef halves loose, with destination Yugoslavia. After loading we were told we had to wait as the health certs were coming from Belgium .We queried this and were told that the meat had been in the cold store for 9months as it came orig’inally from Argentina, was delivered to Austria where it was condemned as having traces of radioactivity and was then taken to an ‘‘out of the way’’ cold store in Vlissingen where it had been for the past 9 months. The next day a guy turned up with a sackfull of paperwork including ‘‘place of origin’’ papers from Belgium .We were told that under NO circumstances were we to transit Austria and were given envelopes with border names in Czech\Hungary\Yugo with dates and times to arrive at said places. Also attached was a bulky envelope with a doctors name on.This we were told was to ‘‘facilitate’’ the transit health process.
Anyway we done the trip and tipped in Novi-Sad in a meat factory where this meat was to be processed and put in tins marked ‘‘stew’’,destination GERMANY.Bon appetit.Mike
This horsemeat saga hasn’t surprised me one bit, having collected from many Tesco suppliers. Is it any wonder, when Tesco go to the supplier dictating that they will pay 3 pence per burger, packaged and delivered. These factories and their suppliers have to make a profit too. It’s definitely one in the eye for all those idiots who believe the only difference between value and the leading brands (findus excepted) is the packaging.
