Just wondering how with all the hassle, getting the money, the fit and proper person bull etc, and all the regulations how so many bleedin rogues and cowboys actually managed to get to be company owners or operators. It`s getting more and more difficult to find firms that actually operate within the law and god forbid treat a driver like a human being.
Down your neck of the woods, you’ve got ND down at lhoist (used to be Turners) who run 100% by the book, and Lomas distribution are supposed to be good.
Don’t know many firms down there, used to work in Buxton myself, but as a computer and network engineer, many years before I did my licences.
there is no fit and proper person aspect to geting an o license you can have a record as long as your arm .
You could say the same thing about second hand car salesmen, estate agents, lawyers and politicians.

Money speaks ?
Maybe ?
The standard of humanity required to be “an operator” is lower than that required “to operate” in the same business.
Eg. A doctor’s boss might well be a comparative idiot, compared to the skill of the surgeon he or she might be set above.
Same applies to Transport, as has been said above as well by hutpik.
I’d venture as well that there are more clean licences to be had amoung the rank-and-file drivers than there are among the C+E carrying TM’s, despite us pros spending a lot more time at the “operating” side of the function than those running the office of the “operator”. Likewise, I would expect pro drivers to be more likely to make “administrative balls-ups” when putting their keys down for the day, to spend some time at a desk - even though they have obviously had the training to do the clerical work.
If you get a coffee ring on that important report/invoice, or accidentally shred Joe Blogg’s tacho infringement letter, then at least you’re not going to get a fine and points on your licence for it!
What I can never understand is the fact that somebody can go burst and fold on a Friday only to return on a Monday with in some cases vitually the same company name and have left a trail of creditors that cant do anything about it there should be a change in the law to close that loophole. Eddie.

Couldn’t agree more, genuine people get shafted whilst the wide boys mince off into the sunset, a pox on them.
because drivers drive for them
