How can the ukba get away with this?

In Dover, there has half dozens hotel or cheap guest houses!

But in July they are probably all full

I would doubt that, there are literally hundreds of B&B’s in Dover, countless hotels and even 2 youth hostels,(YHA) I just checked with the owner of the smaller one and he informed me that both had available beds through to the end of July.

I put the blame on the company he worked for, they should have sorted something out, it was their fault the truck was impounded, they must have been aware of the possibility. At the end of the day they were responsible for the drivers welfare and failed him.
I am not a lover of the UKBA, but the problem is they have a job to do, they didn’t make the laws, the Government that we as a nation voted for made them.
The company must have reneged on an agreement they made with the UKBA and that would be why the truck was seized, the driver was free to go.

If the original driver had done his checks and paper work correctly and used the proper equipment to secure the truck there would never have been a problem in the first place.

100% companys fault

I’d say it was the companies fault. They knew UKBA were after them but the still send their trucks through the ports with some poor unsuspecting mug at the wheel.

Having said that, having explained the situation to the driver, there was no reason why UKBA couldn’t have simply fitted some sort of vehicle immobilser like the giant bike locks VOSA use when they need to stop a dodgey truck or driver. At least that would have given the driver a place to stop overnight, & then he could have made his way back home or whatever next morning on the train.

His best plan would have been to simply refused to leave the truck. At the very worst he;d have been arrested & got free B&B for the night.

It always a shame when like this poor bloke you find yourself surrounded by ■■■■■■■■■ :imp:

There’s an almost Naziness about British officials in recent years, through the wheelie bin police nicking people for putting the wrong kind of rubbish in their bin,

Is that the reason that woman is being hounded? She put the cat in the wrong bin

some drivers are too soft, put your foot down and [zb] off.
what are they going to do?

They have a code of practice apparently.

Where the checks conducted
suggest that the security of the
vehicle may have been breached,
or the owner, hirer or driver
otherwise has grounds to suspect
that unauthorised persons have
gained entry to the vehicle, it
must not be taken onto the ship,
aircraft or train embarking for
the United Kingdom, or to a UK
immigration control operated
in a prescribed control zone
outside the United Kingdom.
Any such circumstances must
be reported to the police in the
country concerned at the earliest
opportunity, or at the latest, to
the passport control authorities
at the port of embarkation. In
the event of difficulties arising,
owners, hirers or drivers should
contact the UK Border Agency at
the proposed port of arrival for
advice.

So that is their game, they would prefer you to fight the clandestine in a dark layby before you enter the port. It is when you report immigrants to the UKBA in France that the ridiculous fines are levied. They should be giving the driver £200 for every one he delivers to them.

I always checked, always. But it is never right that a driver should have to get into his trailer armed with only a maglite (6cell, bought in Gib) to try to remove a half dozen or so full grown men who have no wish to be removed. The risks and tension are, as many on here know, incredible. Going to the french police is always a mistake, and so it is down to the individual driver to get rid of the problem.

There is no sense to it. I was only once spooked by them. 9 in one go in Pidou and 2 pulled knives and brandished them. After that little episode, I took no prisoners at all.

I would imagine a B&B in Dover would resemble one in Arad or Craiova and I for one would not wish to stay there whether the BA, Boss or whoever else were paying for it. :open_mouth:

Reckon you have a point there… Probably safer on the streets. At least you can run for your life then.

A few years ago it was like a warzone in Folkestone with all the illegals camping out. Half the streetlights were smashed so they could hide out. I really can’t see that Dover is any better.

Although this isn’t totally related to the topic, and a bit of a rant, i would just like to make a non racist point, after watching the re run of the documentary of uk border force 2 on sky 3 recently, and this cost cutting government hounding those who are vulnerable targets,
the thing that stands out that no one has so far addressed is that these clandestine’s are taking the mick out of us, and getting away with it, they purposely will come to the uk with no papers (id .passports) so that the border agency are not able to id them or return them to the country of origin, so they (the ones found working here) are bailed until the case is heard but they dissapear , and the ones caught at dover ect are housed fed for months ,why are these clandestines not simply taken to the first country that’s not in the eu, or re repatriated to the country the border agency thinks they have come from ? they rip drivers off and now companies also thousands of pounds for each clandestine found in your trailer, when sometimes the driver is unable to physically check the inside as it would be against health &safety to do so (climbing onto a load checking in any gaps) and a risk of his personal safety

The clandestine without papers is nothing new, they were doing that in Germany in the 80’s, mobile accommodation being set up around Duisburg and Recklinghausen.

It would be so simple to police, but Schengen and open borders have put paid to that. The United Kingdom Border Agency are exactly the same as community policemen, they probably work 8 hour shifts and are too pleased to go home. Anyone of my age will remember the waterguard and the feeling in your stomach as you alighted, then walked to the window with your passport and papers. OK, we all had to turn left then and put our papers in, maybe you were called for inspection, maybe you got a clean sheet, remember route 1 and route 2, at least you got chance for a catch up chat and some beer!

Route 3 and upwards had you leaving the port within 30 minutes, quite boring on a Saturday evening when you were not booked into Purfleet until 9am on Monday. the difference was, Dover was secure, any curtainslashers or cabhoppers could only make the perimeter fence.

I remember all that, now i am really feeling old :frowning:

Coffee, you were close to how I would have reacted, but you, Semtex, had exactloy the same thought as I did…

coffee as it on nail the driver shouldve stood his ground and they would’ve had to give him shelter. having said that the ukba was probably justified in impounding his vehicle if a fine hadn’t been paid on time.

From Next year Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary are increasing the number of Passports issued, doesnt seem to bad until you realise that its to relatives of their nationals who live in the Ukrane, Macedonia, Slovakia etc etc etc. I’m not talking about actual Bulgarians or Romanians etc I’m talking about relatives of ancestors born in countries other than Bulgaria etc who can prove their decendants were from these countries. The unofficial reason they have decided to issue an additional 600,000 passports each? Simply to seek revenge on France for evicting their Gypsies who were legally entitled to be there under the Schengen Treaty.

This move will allow Macedonians and Slovakians to enter ANY European country to legally seek employment

Wonder what Ca-moron has to say about that as it obviously will affect his plans to cut the number of immigrants

Not wishing to take tommy t’s thread off topic, but this is also related to the [zb]s that are known as the UKBA and should be of interest to any of you that like to bring back some ciggies :

nothing-2-declare.blogspot.com/2 … audio.html

Basically, the guy takes the UKBA to pieces and is fantastic to listen to him telling them how to do their job properly. The first couple of mins of audio are rough, but bear with it because it clears up good.
