Household Mains socket in my Truck

Evening fellas,

I want to be able to run household mains equipment in my truck (an 04 ERF) such laptops and various chargers, what do I need for this? I know of inverters but I hear stories of power drops and blowing fuses so I need to do it the proper way! Also where can I get these gizmos.

Thanksin advance

I assume you mean a socket fixed to the dash or somewhere else? I suppose it can be done, an auto-electrcian should be able to advise.
But you’d still need an inverter somewhere to produce the 240v from 24v. Have a look through the other threads here on inverters, there are
plenty recommendations on good ones. It’s probably a lot less hassle as well.

Cheers Colingl,

Sorry thats what I meant, a decent inverter or alternative method. Not going to town on the electrics, no no no. So do you plug the inverter in to the 24v or 12v to produce the power? I take it to plug in a four-way three-pin into the single socket inverter is out of the question!?

You have to check the inverter as there are ones for 12v and 24v, also you can plug in a four way plug or extension lead just as long as all the devices attached to it do not go over the maximum wattage for the inverter otherwise they will not work.

Ta very much busby,

Silly question now, how do I know the wattage of my laptop and other small electrical things? I don’t wanna blow anything! I have 12v and 24v in my truck, is it as simple as more volts = more potential power?

The wattage should be written on you laptop charger and it should be written somewhere on other things. Also you wont blow anything if you attach more things than it can handle they just wont work that is all.
More volts does not mean more power, you can get 12v 3000w inverters.
