Hours ........ ....... ....... ........ Again!

Sitting in an RDC listening to some of the cre##ns trying to put the world to rights, when one came out with a blinder: -

His TM claimed that a 4 hour break gave an extra hour of working time.

So…

Start 5 am.
Drive for 4.5 hours.
45 minute break.
Drive for 1 hour.
Now take a 4 hour rest/break.
… … and (according to his TM) he’s legal to drive until 9pm.

I thought CPCs were supposed to eliminate all this cr#p (or am I genuinely missing something here?)

That would of been ok before they changed the rules, about 10 years ago. Think his tm needs a refresher course

Yes in 2006, it used to be 4+8 and not 8+4 [emoji23] it could also be taken separately as long as each segment was at least one hour.

3+9 still comes in useful though if you need a short rest to get home.

A driver pulled into our Northampton depot last week, and he was on 12 1/2 hours, was waiting for a trailer to come in, then had to take that trailer to Manchester. I told him he’d never make it, and he said “it’s ok, I had a 3 hour break earlier, so I can do 18 hours”.

I just humoured him and walked off.

I see an another Infringement coming…Not even that could be a discliplinary if he works/drives over his 15 hrs. maximun shift time.
Especially knowing he works for ine of the big blue chip ones.

To the OP
It could be like others already mentioned, mixing the Split-Rest up. But it could well be that the Driver mixes it all up even if his TM explained it right.

The camaraderie is strong in this one.

Heaven forbid entertaining the thought of potentially helping out a fellow driver. Or us that too old skool? :unamused:
