Are there any of you chaps out there that work for this outfit, the reason i ask is this shower deliver to your home, and i’m sure that not all of the pepole that work for them are complete ■■■■■■■■■ but unfortunantly there are some.
My daughter took delivery of a 2 piece suite corner unit unfortunatly there both the same pieces, she didn’t have chance to check while driver was there,[sorry luv got to go to much to do] some customer service that.
She phone up,tells the catalogue,“we’ll send you the missing piece,oh hang on we don’t supply that suite anymore your will have to pick another”
She picks another,2 weeks later it turns up,"are you taking the other suite back"she asks,"no luv ain’t got no paper work"he replys, woosh gone through the door like [zb]off a shovel,
You may ask at this point do’es my daughter live in a pig sty cos’ matey boy from HDN don’t like hanging about, well her house is spottless,
jeeeez i have to take my shoes off to walk in the garden it’s that clean!!!,then she notices the ripped wallpaper that matey boy has left her,no wonder he was off a bit sharpish, back on the phone, this time it’s go ballistic big time at 'em,ripped wallpaper,2 two piece suites in the front room and 2 legs missing, “we’ll get it sorted straight away with our carriers,we will honest, promise”,
Now the crux of this saga is that after 5 weeks of compleat incompitance these plebs still can’t co-ordinate how to pick up 2 faulty suites and deliver the next one [yep she’s determind she’s having this suite] at the same time.
I know this isn’t watchdog but if there any one out there who works for them please let me know do’es this happen alot or is my daughter just unlucky.
Having done some work on home deliveries via agency (for MFI, not HDNL), you just don’t have time to wait around while customer checks goods etc. Even without any delays or chit-chat it’s virtually impossible to get all your drops off in the time allocated, never mind picking up returns. And there’s nowt to choose between the companies either, they’re all the same.
I’ve done home delivery myself for B&Q and i know some days it can be busy but as i said the crux of it all is how bloody hard is it to co-ordinate a collection & delivery at the same time.
I have done a bit on agency and confirm what Rob says. Once there were three of us and I would go and knock the door while the other two got the washing machine or whatever off the truck.
“Where do you want it Missis?”
“Oh! Err in the kitchen.”
By that time it would be in the middle of the kitchen floor and the lads would be closing up waiting for me with the signature. Time elapsed - about 3 minutes from “ding dong” to “Bye Missis.”
You may well find that they don’t want the wrong stuff back. It has no value to them and costs them to collect it. Your daughter should write (not email or phone) saying collect in (say) two weeks or I will dispose of it. After that time (it must be reasonable) she can flog it on ebay or put it on freecycle.

Can’t blame the driver for that. It’s the muppets in the customer service office that are to blame. When I was on for Moores furniture at Wetherby I used to get the same [zb]. I’d be delivering (what I assumed to be) a new kitchen for a customer, but when I got there and took it all in the customer would show me the 10 units that were delivered last week in the wrong colour and expect me to take them back. Of course, no collection note = no pick-up = irate customer who won’t ever buy from your company again and will also tell all his/her pals too!
The only company I’ve found to be any good in sorting out problems and organising collections properly is Amazon. For a company of the size that they are they have top notch customer service and nothing is ever too much trouble.

I agree with this, but make sure 100% that you send the letter by special delivery so they can’t argue they didn’t receive it and then charge you for the goods you flogged.
The power of this forum,as i was reading the posts HND have just phoned to say it will be delivered & collected on friday,i won’t hold me breath !!!.

Me and my Mother had our own route doing Stamford, Uppingham, Oakham and the surrounding villages ( Massive area ). We would arrive at the depot at Corby ( which has now gone ) at 5:30am. We would get to our bay and back up to the cage (In a SWB transit) which had 100 to 150 parcels (BEFORE XMAS ) and at Xmas we would have 200 to 250 a day. We both didn’t finish till 9-10:30 at night. Long old day and trust me it was sort of worth it as we was being paid a £1 a parcel ( even for the catalogs). I wouldn’t work for them again because they were ****** and how they treated people was unreal.
So the point of this post is, theres no time at all to stop and chat, drop and run.
having worked for hdnl in the past. its generaly because we get 100 drops + a day and we dont get paid by the hour so if we can get finished quicker then brilliant. but the blame lies with the companies sending some of the stuff, they are only a courier company. we used to get stuff from argos being sent for certain times like they do yet we dont do that. you get it when we get to you…which annoyed people but i did explain to most folk that we do such and such and if we were to be here at such and such a time it would take us hours longer to do the run as sometimes it was in the next town which meant going there to go back to the next town to finish off and it just doesnt work that way.
most people understood it wasnt our fault. some didnt
as for picking stuff up they only pick up stuff if they have paperwork for it.
You cant just expect them to take something away, if they haven’t been told to collect anything then they wont. Its the same in the parcel business, you deliver something that is a replacement and the customer expects you to take the old one away, 90% of the time another company does the returns much to the customers dismay. If i don’t have a collection note then nothing gets collected, it may mean going back the next day but that’s just how it is.
There is one company who cant do a collection/delivery on the same day, bloody annoying, deliver something one day and collect the faulty item the following day, why they can’t co-ordinate it for the same day i don’t know but that’s part of the job

It’s the same with deliveries. Years ago I used to work for BRS on the Cadburys contract out of West Hampstead. The was a tiny road in the City of London with three customers. That would entail going there three days to make one delivery to each shop. It is probably the same elsewhere, logic has no place in the planning office. The planners will always have a plausible reason for how they do things.

amazon like most other places use 2 or more diffrent companys to deliver parcels…i did city link and HDNL last year for xmas was a great laught with 100+ parcels a day but my bonus was being paid by the hour as i was working agency which meant i was better paid than the FT staff or owner drivers…plus any collection notes got left behind at the yard. And any places i couldnt find after going down the road went back to the yard otherwise you was just waisting time looking for houses especially the ones with names on and the name of the house was on the front wall quite some distance from the road…doing the same again this year as agency asked me back again…

Aye, that was something that ■■■■■■ me off no end when I used to do house deliveries. Imho this practice should be banned or there should be a £100 surcharge on all deliveries to said named houses to pay for the time and fuel wasted trying to find them. Nothing wrong with having a fancy name for your gaff on a placard next to the front door, but there should be a law that says you must have your house’s consecutive number clearly displayed on the wall at the end of your driveway or whatever. Obviously farms and other non-standard stuff excepted, but all properties should legally have to display the name or number so you can see them from the road.
And while I’m in rant mode about places not being marked, there should be the same law applied to retail units, either underground city centre ones, or those out of town ones that all have the exact same white rear door and none of them have the company name or unit number on them. I lost my rag spectacularly at Glasgow Fort retail park one time because of this BS. Stupid [zb]s.
Gotta hand it to the parcel and delivery guys that put up with that BS every day. If it were me the whole lot would be going back to the depot as address not found.

i was on roughly 180-210 quid a day with hdnl when i worked with them at xmas a few years back for driving a van, but we got paid by the parcel and since i knew the run inside out i could easily do 200+ drops a day
and also a saturday morning run with teh catalouges, a good 200+ qiud for 4 hours work.
