Hola Toby
I live in Tenerife, The job situation here is very bad all you see here is manny trucks up for sale all the builders i know are out of work, my canarian wife is on the dole cause the construction company she worked for went bust, and things do not seem to be getting any better at the mo. Its a little worse here in the Canaries than mainland i think! maybe vasco knows more about the situation in mainland spain.
Hodgy67.

Hodgy, did you see my post about capital gains tax in Spain,i read they have to give back money, cos the Spanish get 15% tax on house sells, while the foreign resident pays 35%,think some EU law,and harmonasation regs apply.
Is Valencia region still doing that land grabbing, where the owners have to pay the government,or they build a footbridge/motorway/dual carrigeway or retail/residential land in the back garden that the owner owns. Some times they knock half the house down or the whole lot.TC,. :grimacing:

Situation is still bad even though it is beginning to look as though it has started to bottom out although I expect there to be another drop after the new year. A tip companies doing Holland from Spain may be on a bit of a good thing in the early part of the new year as it is already known that the tax on wine and booze will be going up quite sharply next year so I expect the Dutch importers to be stocking up well before then.

As of yet I have not spoken to anyone in Spain who beleives things are on the up, in fact most are pretty glum about the current state of affairs and if they have jobs they are praying that they will keep them.

some good news, some bad.
my wife eventually found a job after a year on the dole and the boss has just bought three new trucks but only cos they were cheap in the crisis!!
still waiting for my tax refunds from 2007 and 2008 because the government are skint, they owe me about 3500 euros :frowning:
and as for work the spanish are still keen on employing romanians and bulgarians for their cheapness so the wages are still suffering in some sectors
apart from that the weather is still better and we don’t have an unelected one eyed ■■■■■■■ as a leader
