Used to be a guy drove in the summer for Nestle
Reportedly had been quite high at ERF
Said he didn’t need the money and sent his wages to childrens charities.
Was his name John Bryant?
I’ve been trying to remember that name for ages it was yes.
Thanks
i am not here to take money off other drivers, and does any one in their right mind think if LUCKYtRUCKER didnt do is planned target of 400 hrs all the other truckers would be on better pay !!! , Its just a matter of keeping active. I have planned my life this way, its a shame some other people did not plan their savings , i can now drive around relaxed and not have bosses chasing me and putting pressure on. which as we all know can and does lead to accidents and mishaps. and as for finding a good agency , i have and the gentleman at the agency does treat me with respect,
So all out there KEEP SAFE.
Same here lucktrucker,I do three 10 hour shifts,& once I’m out of bed it’s easy work, don’t pay nat.ins so that makes it better take home pay, then really enjoy my four days off, only trouble is agency have set some redundant tosco drivers on they have took stobarts payoff,& one of them has been cutting the job up,to try & get set on,been driving over forty years,—you always get one

WHAT ONLY ONE > think we may have plenty on here, how many can remember such as me standing on picket duties during the 70s during the Lorry drivers strike,
Look where that got us fine knights of the road

See when i retire i’ll be in Spain or Portugal playing golf, no sitting in traffic on the M6 as a hobby.
Few guys in my depot have cashed in their pension and they are in their early 50’s. I didnt know you could do this?
One guy got a 22k cheque and 600quid a month the other guy got a 40k cheque and 1200 quid a month. Think im going to do this enjoy my old age whilst i still have all my faculties.
Do you really think you could live off £1200 a month in the med area right now?
The cash lump sum won’t buy a property there, even at today’s depressed prices.
The £1200 a month won’t be enough to put food on the table, let alone join any golf clubs.
The cheapest prices obtainable locally for regular items require you to speak the language, not live in some “Brit from Bexhill” type enclave to boot.
South Europe isn’t Third World (yet!) although I can understand from news reports why people seem to think it is.
On the other hand, somewhere like Egypt would see £1200 get you through the month with cash to spare. … But of course no one wants to go there, hence why the prices are so low!
The paradox of travel abroad.
i’m not on much more than £1200 a month now, £250k house with some mortgage left, 2 kids 1 in private school (with a bursary) so rock on when they’re out of my hair (not that i have much) i’d be having a ball on that boozing, holidaying, womanising, partying and then wasting the rest
.
Not sure if i’d have time to do hobby driving
Funnily enough three of us ‘retired driver’s’ were at an old workmate’s Funeral a couple of weeks ago and we all said that we would go back driving for nothing but the love of it because we miss all the fun and the crack that we used to have out on the road and at social events! Would never happen of course as no doubt someone would try and force money in our hands.
Pete.
Pete, money aside. Sadly if you did go back on the road you would be very disappointed as the craic (correct) & camaraderie ain’t there anymore. They all sit in the cabs with curtains drawn on their iphone on Facebook now.
You got a myriad of rules and regs & VOSA checking to see if every pallet is strapped instead.

If you want to go boozing and womanizing in Egypt, you’ll need to take your women and booze with you.
Anyone turning up in the med zone with wads of cash though is likely to find out why that is the best aphrodisiac known to man in short order.
If i cant afford to retire then i wont retire.why in my golden years do i want to top up a crap pension by sitting in a heart attack box at traffic lights when i could be with the grand kids etc.aim for the sky chaps.
