HMRC business fuel rates change

We received an email in work today advising the the government have increased the tax free allowance for company car drivers for mileage allowance from 1st June
e.g car up to 1400 cc petrol can claim 12p per mile.

However when people use their own car for business miles this rate stays at 40p for the first 10,000 miles. This rate was set in 2002 and does not increase either annually or with increasing fuel costs as the company car rates do.

if you work for a company and are asked to use your own car, you should refuse until they
a) give you a company car
b) give you a hire car and then pay for any petrol you use
c) get them to harass the government
