Ben.

looks like you had a good time ben, glad you got back safe and well.

 good diary enjoyed reading it.good pics, thanks for posting

The pictures took me back to my trips to Germany with hubby. Also I did some hitchhiking when I was younger and mostly got lifts from truckers. That’s another story too. Bet you were glad to get home safely.

A wonderful read and also excellent photos Betz.
BY the way your Dutch Tanker is unfortunatly a
German;A company ,whose boss would have
a bloody fit about the incident ,as they are
known as one of the good fims, and have a
very good name over here in germany,

Excellent Ben!!! You’re a brave lad to hitch that far.

A diary with a difference Ben, very interesting and good pics too. I notice
that, apart from the car drivers, you were helped by Russian, Serbian and
Turkish truck drivers. Were there any Brits that passed you without stopping, or
just no Brits? :open_mouth:

I remember from my student days it being very easy to get lifts in trucks and
when I started driving always picked up hikers who looked clean but for
security reasons (from both sides) it has dropped off a lot in recent years.

Maybe you should hold up a sign saying ‘Betz’ then you would have all those
on here who pass you plus thousands of Willi’s drivers too.

Nice one Ben! Very good diary mate!

Yes Some of Brits & irish trucks drivers passed me and looked down at me  but most of polish trucks drivers give me a hard look
One brits driver - Maru, I asked him when he parked but he say sorry cos he have to make other collections in central germany

I have read somewhere in hitchiking forum from website. they said most of turks drivers will more be happy and give a lift to hitchhiker and best friendly hospitiality - cook the meal & cay (Turk tea) for hitchiker! even they make a connection to other turks drivers and continue other lift along the way! :sunglasses: wonder why the most of turks drivers are so friendly ? maybe they are lonely ? long away from home

Nice one Ben, I enjoyed that diary with a difference.

Great Diary Ben. I think the thing with the Turk drivers is a cultural thing about showing hospitality to travellers.

yes it is a way of life you reap what you sow
and i can only add to betz,s post eastern
european drivers are all ways willing to help out
as many of the old m/e drivers will tell you
themselves, when you doing the next trip Betz,
in fact somewhere on this site is a post from
a member who gave some help to a turk
and when he was stuck on the side of the road
who stopped to help,YES ,a Turkish driver.

Cracking dairy and pics, Betz :exclamation:
Reminded me of the time me and our lass were hitching back from Italy to UK in '79. Got to Bruchsal services late on, so we just called it a night and put the tent up on the grass next to the slip road.
No one bothered us
Wouldn’t try it today, mind
