Well, I’m looking into hiring a van. And I’ve found a potential snag…
The vehicle would be a Mercedes Sprinter, possibly the LWB (at 6.9m). However, the width is listed as 2.425m and the breakdown companies are saying that the max width is 2.3m.
So, as the 2.425m is with the mirrors extended
Can someone give me the width without the mirros, as they can get folded in.
Alternatively, can anyone offer me details of breakdown companies that cover Europe (France and Spain specifically) that can cope with a 2.425m wide van

I’ve had a quote from Burnt Tree for everything but the breakdown cover of £945 and one from TLS including £440’s worth of b/c making the hire for them £1650

I managed to get a quote from RAC Non Commerical who have said that their limit is 2.25m and I should pull the mirrors in if I get recovered
so the mirros are 17.5cm total width… Or am I just getting confused?!
Anyway, they reckon they’ve covered Merc Sprinters before…
I’ve now got a quote reference off them for £66 for the 14 days of cover which isn’t too bad… That’s for a van of max length 7m.
Just go back to the hire company now and double check…
Ahh well.

I would think the two mirrors add more than that to the width, 17.5 cm is less than 8 inches.

I think I’m going to have to actually go in and see the chap at Burnt Tree in person and measure it without the mirrors…
And also then find out if he has thinner vehicles

Ok, Apparently the sprinter is 1.95m wide without the mirrors.
Why Mercedes don’t think this is important information I’ll never know
But saying that, how wide is a HGV?? If the 2.3m is the max width of one of them, then this is definately thinner…

Max width for an HGV under normal operations in the UK, in fact throughout most of the EU, is 2.55 metres, 2.60 metres for refrigerated vehicles.
