Hire class c to help someone move house

Just want some advice really.
My dad is thinking of relocating from stocton-on-tees to an area further south nearer London. We was talking on the phone the other day & he was asking me if i could hire a class c rigid to help him move. Now i live in bristol & drive an artic & my questions are, 1, could anyone with an hgv licence hire a class c truck. 2, if yes as its quite a long way would i have to use a tacho or digi card, & would you have to stick to the normal driving hours etc etc. Im not even sure its possible but i’m hoping some of you guys or gals may no & could give me some advice on this matter.

Thanks in advance

i dont know if you can personally hire anything over 7.5 ton because usually vehicles larger than this are normally insured through the company hiring it rather than the hire companie insurance.
just get a 7.5 tonner and squeeze 15 ton of stuff into it

You wont need to stick to drivers hours if its for personal use

wont work let u borrow the artic   Be getting off to a great start with the new neighbours :grimacing:

Was correct although the rule changes in 2007 now limit it to 7.5t, as ROG stated.

How big is the house? 120 cbm usually weighs about 10 tonnes so you may be able to do the move in a 7.5 tonne truck. A 3 bed ex Council house could be around 40 cbm and weigh around 3 tonnes

Correct. The rules changed on 11th April 2007 at the same time the changes to the split 45 break were made. Prior to that, you could use any vehicle for personal use and be exempt from the rules but that was amended to basically 7.5t and below being exempt. I guess too many were abusing the exemption.

FWIW, with some careful packing and moving some smaller boxes by car, you can fit an entire house in a 7.5 tonner. When I moved my brother and his family back up here from Letchworth, we did it in a 7.5 tonner and an estate car. Would’ve fitted the whole lot in the wagon if he knew how to pack stuff properly.

You can’t bobtail to the beech, the oak, the ash or any other kind of tree. You can’t bobtail to the seaside either. :stuck_out_tongue:
