Hire and reward?

hello,

a mate of mine is a teacher and has been told she can ferry the kids about in the school mini bus and that in not classed as hire or reward although this is part of her job. if like my license she’ll have a 101 code next to her 16 seat mini bus entitlement which mean not for hire or reward. in other words she could legally hire a 16 seater and drive non paying mates about but couldn’t drive a 16 seater taxi. she had a training course but it was done inhouse and sounded more like a H+S “we’ve trained you” - it wasn’t a DSA test.

so can she legally drive it on school duties??

cheers stevie

Yes - it comes under a ‘community exemption’

I checked on this not long ago via my MP and have a letter from the DfT on the subject.
