hip replacement

I know this subject will be for older drivers, but I was wondering if there are any drivers thinking of having a new hip or have already had one, because I need one now, and I was thinking is the hip most likely to be affected the left one, which could mean all those years driving those old wagons with really stiff clutches could be the reason, so instead of white finger for miners, and hearing problems for workers in factories etc etc, what about us lot, just a thought, so have a think is it always the left hip, so think back when we were driving round London and other big cities having to hold down that bloody clutch back in the sixties and seventies

I’m only 39 but I am starting to get early signs of hip pain. I’m sure mine is from getting in and out of my lorry as I drive a refuse truck. Just to reassure you I work with a loader who has had both hips replaced and walks about 12 miles, cycles to and from work (approximately 16 miles) each day and he is 60. He says he feels little pain and walks normally.

that’s good to know, but I want to find out if there is any truth about the clutch problem, its coming back to me now, if we still had those clutches we wouldn’t have any drivers, its so easy now with all the automatic gearboxes, power steering, double glazing, climate control, Bluetooth, wifi, fridges, they will soon have wheelchair lifts for the drivers     ,the only thing that was better then is the amount of traffic and the friendship, time to stop in cafes etc etc , im 68 soon still driving ,done the cpc, but I wont be doing it in 2019 lol :unamused:

Not much chance of any compensation scheme. That vibration white finger thing was a scam anyway; only reason most of the claimants had white finger was cos they sat round all day with it up their arse.

LOL. Yes I could have phrased that better, couldn’t I?

I’m sure you understand the point I’m making though. The people who benefited most from that scheme were the lawyers and the unions. The scheme itself was set up by Labour in 1997 as a sop to the unions after the closure of the pits; payouts by 2002 were over £100 million. There is no doubt whatsoever that it was indeed a genuine work-related affliction for those who worked underground, but the qualifying criteria were so lax that virtually everyone who’d ever used anything more than a Black & Decker drill found a way to claim on it. That, remember, was YOUR money; and unless someone would care to correct me, the likes of building site workers , resurfacing gangs and the like couldn’t get a sniff of it. I personally knew at least three ex-NCB workers who’d never been out of the pit office in their lives neve mind underground, but were still entitled to claim . I don’t blame them for taking advantage of it but it stinks when other deserving and genuine cases missed out.

I was the first on our fleet to get an i-shift (not cos I’'m the boss’s blue-eyed boy but because nobody else wanted it) and after a couple of weeks I noticed that I wasn’t getting that ache in my left hip either. When that motor came off contract I got a manual for a couple of months as a stop-gap till mt new Renault turned up. Hip pain came back.

Go figure.

well thanks lads for your replies, lets hope some solicitor is having a look and pound note signs come to him
but lets not hold our breath, :unamused:
