Watch out for hijacks in East Staffordshire
Truckpol says Staffordshire police want all truckers in its area to be extra vigilant because of a spurt in truck crime, particularly hijacks. These have centred on the county’s borders with Warwickshire and the West Midlands. A silver Subaru Impreza may be connected with these attacks. “Take extra care and please report anything suspicious,” says TruckPol’s DC Andy Round.
TruckPol says that Kent police wants truckers to be wary of gangs of Slovakian men posing as customs officials and operating along the M20, M25 and M1. The people approach parked trucks and try to buy electrical goods, seemingly suggesting that the driver should report a ‘theft’ to the police some time later. A similar scam has been running in Northamptonshire, at the Brackmills Industrial Estate. In this case there seems to be a red Ford ■■■■■■ involved and the victims are often foreign nationals.
Not directly connected, but…
A long time ago, around 1972, I was carrying a load of cigarrettes from Newcastle to Leeds, working for NCL (british rail)
After leaving newcastle I noticed that i was being tagged by a silver MK II Cortina (I said it was a long time ago).
So, I did the usual things to check, down the slip road , around the roundabout and back up onto the A1M. Varying speed etc but still the Cortina was with me.
Played like this all the way to Scotch corner, all the time the car was behind me.
getting seriousley worried, as I passed scotch corner I spotted a “jam sandwich” parked in the gravel.
Hitting the brakes I pulled onto the gravel , leapt out of the cab and approached the police car to say"I am carrying a high value cargo and I have been followed for the last 40-50 miles by a car"…
Just in time for the driver of the MK II cortina to introduce himself as" sergeant PLOD of the British Transport Police"
( just as well he didn’t follow me the next week when someone didn’t lock the shutter and I didn’t bother to check, with the result that i arrived n Leeds with a wide open shutter and half a load of tobacco, OK it was only half a load anyway
Its SILLY season again !
working in a C&C , and picking up/delivering high value loads am constatltly looking in mirrors for tails! ,
allways try take breaks in customers yards etc
just some of the things you need to do now eh!
