Hignways Agency - Overhead matrix

We’ll remember that…implying for some reason you want to remember that ATS won’t change the tyre because a lane has not been closed…one
assumes you actually meant to say …well…least we now know who is in charge of the Matrix signs.Like I said, not fit for purpose.

I’m not a control room traffic officer, I’m just one of the poor ■■■■■■■ on road trying to do my best with what little technology is available to me on my patch.

Matrix on the 42 have done me all last week saying 2 lanes closed 800yrds 600yrds etc so proceed to start moving middle cars up my back doors flashing down to 300yrds move out fast lane and wait wheres the flashing cones ohhhhhh i see its playing games all lanes are open!

To me that could cause untold accidents and im guessing it would be our fault as were the nasty truckers

An article in yesterdays Sunday Times said that they are going to stop the irrelevant messages such “don’t drink and drive” as they realise that they do not make any difference and are only a distraction so hopefully they will now have time to concentrate on getting the important messages correct, but we will see.

Crikey … what will Nanny do from now on?

I suggest that she gets some proper British plod (for British roads) out there to kick the butts of transgressors - if that’s ok with the race-to-the-bottom, uber-liberals that are sub-contracted to manage this EU state.

I was coming down the A1M last week and it said J47-45 Long Delays. Great I thought, that’s another 45 to get back home. Sat Nav said 30 minute delay too which was currently 33 miles ahead of me. Anyway, the closer I got the shorter the delay became according to my sat nav. Matrix signs kept saying delays but a few mile away my sat nav said the delay had gone. Low and behold, I sailed straight through. Saw a burn mark on the hard shoulder and sand on the road so looks like a vehicle fire at that location.

If my sat nav can get it right, why not Midas ?

On Saturday i was heading south on the M6 and the signs were saying obstruction on road. Knowing how accurate they are in ■■■■■■■■ i immediately looked for an obstruction on the other carriageway

last week i passed a cow walking along the hard shoulder on the M6 between 33 and 32. After i passed j32 heading south, the next few matrix signs said animals on road. Very informative telling me about something i have already passed :unamused:

We were given conflicting locations for this cow, hence the signals being set for a long distance. The signals would have been amended once the correct location. Signals are set on both carriageways in case the beast runs into the opposite carriageway.

I get more sense out of my pet goldfish Bob than i do from the motorway matrix signs. I have weaved from lane to lane like a right pratt looking for imaginary lane closures , i have thought about bikes for hours , i have taken breaks when legally required and after 15 years of going up and down the M5 i know how far it is from Juction 30 to Bodmin. What it doesnt tell me is that the next junction i want is closed , it doesnt tell me that the road is closed ahead , they are potentially wonderful sources of valuable information to all road users unfortunatly in the hands of complete and utter useless idiots who dont know and dont care.

It is criminal that this valuable asset that could save lifes and money is utilised in such a foolhardy and uneconomic way. I can know within 10 seconds that my favourite team have scored a goal whilst they are playing 2000 miles away in Russia but i can still drive into a road closure that someone was made aware about hours ago , give me strength …

^^^^^^ this post should be copied and stuck above every computer screen in every control room where the sign operators can see it every minute of their shift.

I’m guessing that it’s not Saltash Utd, Tamers

If it’s irrevellent, out of date or otherwise F*$&kin useless, they’ll put it up there, the TOSSERS. A few months ago they put on a diversion that had us all going round in circles, down near Woolpit. I tell you they’d have their work cut out just to be moderatey useless but they’ve taken uselessness to the ninth degree… :imp: :imp:

Ha ha, a few weeks ago there was a closure in my neck of the woods, a bunch of clearly useless ■■■■■■ car and lorry drivers came giving me jip as the diversion signs bought them back to the same place so knowing how useless the Highways Agency are■■?, I drove the route myself and found 11 Yes ELEVEN yellow Diversion signs the size of a car directing you around the roadworks and out to a clear motorway but still, your’e perfect I’m sure!!!

Did you happen to notice the TM truck turning around at the previous junction behind you after removing all the cones that were there, they have to go around and remove the fixed signs in the central res? No, didn’t think so. You see, what you see isn’t always what is going on.

If they were the electronic signs did you notice the HATO’s leaving the scene and did you hear the ensuing radio comms between the HATOS and the RCC asking for the signs to be turned off and did you have your CCTV camera switched on in the control room to see how busy they are removing other signs for other jobs all around their patch?

Or perhaps did you notice the truck tyre in lane 1 that was reported and signs set to prevent you hitting it but as trucks normally drive 3 feet off the one in front, a truck hit it and shot it into the undergrowth but since neither the Police or us had gone through and confirmed it was gone so the signs stayed on?
