highways england

shame about the highways officer who was hit by a car and died as well as his colleague receiving multiple injuries,we hgv drivers take the mickey out of these people but they do not deserve to die because some idiot car driver loses control of his car,the one that died was a father as well,as I said a real shame

Good post and well deserved too, I have a lot of respect for the Wombles, they free up the police to deal with road debris and breakdowns .
I use the 999 to report ratchet straps in live lanes, if a motorcyclist hits that, it could be a
fatal .
They get a lot of abuse from lorry drivers .
Due to financial cuts, they are not allowed to cruise around wasting fuel so park up in strategic locations .
The Man that died was a keen dog walker.
RIP and thank you .

I totally agree…

if only the money was better I apply today

I dont think anyone has written they deserved to die, or have i missed a post?

It doesnt matter what they do, or where they come from, everyone deserves to make it home after a days work.

maybe I put it wrong, should have said its a shame he lost his life simply for doing his job, same as lorry drivers, police etc when they lose their lives, and +1 to your post about making it home at night

Cheers for your comments guys, Adam was a colleague and a good friend, the station is still stunned at his loss, he was one of the best, one of life’s characters who never failed to lift the mood whenever he was in the room. Gone - but will never be forgotten, it was an honour to have patrolled with you, RIP and god bless mate. :frowning:

How’s the other bloke doing Boss.

He had a 10 hour operation during the week to try and repair some of the damage sustained in the incident. He’s still in a medically induced coma at the moment, the doctors will keep him that way whilst they assess his recovery.

Near misses happen quite frequently to all of us: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35673488

Having spent a majority of time working on public highways it always amaze’s me the PURE IGNORANCE people have for anyone who has to work on live roads.

I’ve been a bin man, and absolutely no ■■■■ thinks that hang on there is a big white truck, piles of waste so errrrr fella’s will be about…i had two very near deaths in space of a week and I’m no clown when it comes too awareness of surroundings…

Folk NEED to accept that any kind of work involving a road is a lethal job, be it recovery, bins, the highways lads, and OPEN THEIR EYES and accept the need for the jobs too keep the country clean and moving despite their pitiful need for self absorbance.

RIP to the poor chap and my deepest to his family, friends… and a TRUELY BEST OF BRITISH to his colleague for a proper recovery in no time.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CARRIAGE WAY CREWS OF ALL ILK, YOU ALL DESERVE A MEDAL :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Why has no arrest been made? If you’re driving properly you’d not hit something on the hard shoulder.
I think anyone who hits a stationary vehicle on the hard shoulder should be banned for life.

Nice to see " no arrests were made of the 35 year old male from Manchester! :smiling_imp: " who miraculously " VEERED! :smiling_imp: " off the road! maybe if they didn’t dish licences out silly nilly ( if he had one to begin with? ) :unamused: and took time to train up these monkeys ( sorry that’s professional hgv class one drivers who need DCPC! ) I bet the car driver was on faceache! :open_mouth: ongoing investigation obviously no insurance, telephone records blah, blah, blah! :open_mouth:

RIP to the dead patrolman, speedy recovery to the one in hospital. :sunglasses:

I don’t know what the answer is but the sheer amount of [zb]wittery I see on the motorways at night is beyond bonkers - motorway lane closures in particular. Despite all the physical carriageway signs and matrix board info a full mile (or more) before the closure I would say that a good 90%+ of cars/vans and ~50% of truckers take absolutely no notice and simply continue blundering along in the closed lane until they have to take evasive action to avoid driving through the cones. These aren’t just occasional events, it happens at EVERY lane closure and given that you’re only seeing a 20-30 second snapshot before you’re through them, that’s an insanely high amount of [zb]wittery than can so easily result in utter carnage.

I personally think much of it is due to poor eyesight. I know there’s a medical condition where you can have perfect vision in daylight but at night you can’t see [zb] all as my mate’s wife suffers from it and she can’t drive at night, but where is the DVLA eye test for this? If you can read a number plate pretty much right in front of your face then you’re deemed to have adequate vision and fit to drive. I mean come on, 20 metres is nothing. Let’s try it at a more realistic 100 yards away then we might see some improvements to driving standards. At the very least there should be compulsory DVLA eyesight retests every 12 months imho. Of course none of this would solve the issue of people not watching where they’re going due to updating their facebook status whilst driving but it would be a step in the right direction.

hopefully he will make a good recovery

Carl usher, you are not the only one thinking along the lines of poor eyesight too! :unamused: and faceache as well :open_mouth: lock up the car drivers :grimacing: motorists  or whatever you want to call them! funny how car drivers don’t get arrested at the scene though isn’t it? He ■■■■■■ killed a man and severely injured another FFS :smiling_imp:

There is another copy where it shows the front and people trying to collect the debris the feckwit knocked across the c/way, handy the BIB were right behind him/her and had their ■■■.

The only good thing about this clip is the Police car coming up behind in lane 3 that witnessed it all.

Just to be “devil’s advocate” for a moment…

In the context of the above, what are people’s opinions of the programme on ITV last night (“Annoyed Britain” or something like that) where a guy was complaining about the cost of “H&S gone mad” because there were three large warning sign vehicles (some of them with drivers sitting in them) stopped on a dual carriageway to close off a lane to protect one guy in the central reservation picking up litter?

(apart, of course, from the fact that the guy was illegally using a hand-held camera (probably a smartphone) whilst driving to film it).
