Broke down last night and the got the lorry onto the hard shoulder of a slip road. Breakdown man got the highways agency out to close a lane of the slip road so he could work on the lorry. Do I have to pay for the highways agency to come out and close the lane? Thanks.

I don’t think so - but I’m guessing.
I did exactly the same thing on the M6 about 3 weeks ago.
An airbag went on the trailer’s off side wheel, losing most of the air.
I crawled to the next slip road, revving the balls off it to keep the
pressure up and the Breakdown Man just coned off about one metre
of the live slip lane. Airbag replaced and job done in 25 minutes.

No they don’t charge for that but if they had sent recovery out expect a big ££££
And diesel domes breakdown man was ‘breaking the law’.
Handy if no one notices until it goes t*ts up.
Saying that if the Mac contractors even looked at you the charges they dream up would make your eyes water
