I know grass is greener on the other side etc etc but just sneaked a week off near Ullapool. We have travelled most of the Highlands in the last 25 years. Whenever I see a truck or van I wonder if they think it’s as wonderful or they just think it’s another road.
went there quite a while back along with plockton and skye yes a lovely part of scotland but theyre used to it arent they so would think theyd say just another road and would love to be there all the time myself
try a week in Donegal before you relocate…its arguably the same but better, with the advantage of living in 1970 thrown in,plus a better dole/retirement from the government…class to drive in,but the locals anywhere tend not to appreciate what they’ve grown up with… when your sitting in the redlight area of Amsterdam, people blocke with tour tongue hanging out you see locals walk their kids to school through it completely indifferent…i don’t think blackpool locals wet their pants looking at the tower much either. no doubt the choochters don’t like the m6 gridlock, but they prob don’t appreciate the niceness of their locale…its known to have its own form of gridlock in the country though?
Ullapool,Coigach and Wester Ross in general are wonderful. I used to be up there all the time when I was on the fridges and in the early 80’s too on the flats with steelwork for buildings and the oil rig industry at Kishorn. Loved every minute and some cracking places to night out too.
Only get up there on holiday now but stay in Ullapool at least twice a year as we go walking in the mountains a lot.
Up there next in february ( go around valentines every year) then Mull in May followed by Mull.of Kintyre in september then already booked Christmas and Hogmanay back in Ullapool for 2015…can’t wait!
I have to agree with you,
I moved from March to Maryburgh and lived there for 3 years, and worked for stagecoach.
The scenery was beautiful and the wildlife. On a council estate ducks used to waddle across the road nobody bother them.
Highland cattle opposite Culloden Academy.
For me it was like stepping back in time, if I could only afford to live there now.
