Highest speed you 've had a truck at

roadrunner69:
92mph on a private road on the M62

Circa 90 mph down the M5 in 1967 in Octopus and drawbar trailer, being clocked by Leyland Motors foreman from Oldbury in a Vitesse service van.Loaded with 22ton of signode strapping for the Abbey,Margam!

worst bit of overspeed ive done was on the A9 coming out of perth towards gleneagles in a old daf 45 7,5 tonner loaded with spuds the tacho was showing 75mph when the cab phone rang seemingly the transport manager wanted know why i was doing 95 mph  as thats what speed the tracker was showing

107 mph in a kenworth fitted with an N14 ■■■■■■■ tweaked to 640 hp loaded with 88000 lbs of animal feed in new mexico

I’ve been driving over 20 years and never hit some of the speeds mentioned. It must be a complete myth that the N. Irish are the fastest on the road.

one good thing about driving interstate in australia and i presume the US too, you can go for a while without seeing anyone so if youre not limited to the basic 100, you can let her go, only trouble is sometimes the only other vehicle out there happens ot be a highway patrol coming the other way…

:grimacing: :grimacing:

Actually, it wasn’t as good (or bad), as I did only about 85 mph and although the van was crap (one of the McLellan’s oldest Iveco’s) it has all wheels on.

It was my fault. I was doing regular trunk to Inverness with papers, and usually I had about three pallets on.

One day they loaded me fully.

As you propoably know Iveco has retarder wired to the cruise control, so it’s not only keeps your speed up, but also down if necessary.

This retarder was one of the things which were actually working fine, so usually on that long hill just before Inverness it was enough to keep me about the speed limit or slightly above. If you had no more than three pallets on.

On that day I was running fully loaded, I noticed that the truck is driving weird. At the beginning I just thought that I just lost one of the tires, so I slightly steered to the middle of the road and started to carefully decelerate. Then I looked at the speedo and everything went clear.

I have somewhere copy of that tacho with the line going over the scale.

That was pretty scare and please, do not try this in home…eeee…work

Sorry guys if I dissapointed you with my result

Also: I was once running back empty from Dumfries on 7.5 t iveco with no speed limiter and the driver mate challenged me saying that we, Polish drivers can’t drive and that I would never dare to go trhough the mountains instead of going on A702 or something. Back then I was young and stupid, so I picked up the challenge and he had some interesting ride, including drifting on the road covering with gravel… He did not said a word right to glasgow (which was not so much, as I was sitting slightly over 70 mph on the motorway) and when we came back to the yard, he demanded that he will never be sent out with me again.

Yeah, young people are stupid :stuck_out_tongue:

EDITED:
But yeah, I can give you the fastest speed and it will be confirmed by the police officer!!!

I had a trial today: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=62494 and police seargant claims that time between two pictures from the redspeed camera is 0.001 seconds, and that I moved between them by “1 to 1.5” metres. That gives me a speed of 2000 to 3000 mph :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: but that propably does not count in, as I was in my car :frowning:

Along time ago i drove an old 1820 Merc which would do about 85 when the limiter played up , which was quite often…
