High-visibility shirts (not vests or jackets)

‘I have to wear one…company policy’ is the box I ticked.

I don’t mind. It’s got the company name front and back, it’s our uniform.
I do keep a t shirt with me for when it’s really not appropriate, such as a swift beer at the local on the way home.
I don’t get reflections, and really can’t be bothered to whip a waist coat on and off all day.
OK, lots of my drops require hi-viz in yards, so it’s quite convenient.

I have a hi-vis polo shirt which I wear when it’s very hot in the summer - cooler than wearing a hi-vis waistcoat on top of a normal polo shirt.

Whats the problem with these hi viz shirts. Nearly all truckers in New Zealand wear polo shirts with flurecent stripes on them without any complaint. Get with the times, its much safer at the end of the day. The reason these shirts have came about is due to truckers not taking the hint about safety. Wear your hi viz, its simple.

I think the driving medicals should be changed to every year as there must be so many drivers with poor eyesight who can only see people if they wear fluorescent vests. What next? Aspestos overalls and hard hats with pieces of Armco dangling from the peak.

Its only knobs who have let it get this far. unfortunately it is creeping abroad now and they are asking for hi viz.

I live in the country and just looked out of the window and can see 5 people wearing fluorescent yellow. 2 are in a field

when is this health and safety ■■■■ gonna stop?,i understand a hi viz ,but i dont get a bright yellow polo shirt ffs get a grip,it will be covered in tea stains coffee ■■■ ash 5th wheel grease food stains the collar hahahahah dont bear thinking about ,its all gone barmy, everbodys ear has a flashing blue light in it ,the wagons look like pakistani taxis, bright yellow hi viz polo shirts ffs slip your vest on and take it off when u dont need it.

My theory is that the H&S industry in this country is run by covert communists, and the Hi-Viz clothing will be the uniform everyone has to wear when they take over. When that day arrives we’ll all be wear Hi-Viz grundies too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi all. I have the reflection problem as well and as a result would never wear one while driving. However those hats look rather fetching. Where can i buy one?

I think the problem is being forced to wear one and having no choice in the matter. Its a sign of the times, and lets face it, given the choice I’m sure 99.9% of us would rather hi viz’s never were even invented.

Having all this said about hi viz’s reminds me of something I saw a few weeks ago to the contrary. Outside of my befroom window they’re building a 5 storey block of flats. An artic was in there delivering the big concrete slabs that go between floors. I see now they have to have a safety net erected around the edge of the trailer, giant air bags too. All the builders had hi viz’s, hard hats etc… I’ve noticed building site H+S is incredible. But what stuck out the most was that the driver didn’t have his hi viz on. LOL, that stuck out the most!! So in a way he was probably safer than the builders.
I was suprised nobody told him though.

No doubt some desk bound blunderhead will come on here and say why Hiviz is so necassary in stupid situations. Now if you go into a a public park where mothers are pushing prams, you will see some numpty parkeeper in bright yellow, a tesco checkout girl cannot go outside for a smoke without wearing hiviz. tipper drivers, baggage handlers, builders and train guards all wear them.

Either people are stupid or are willing to be controlled like the communists.

It really is a pet hate of mine when I have to report to a loading desk dressed in safety boots, safety glasses with a lanyard, fluorescent jacket, hard hat with a chin strap to be told by a 16 year old spotty kid that I am not allowed on my trailer and their staff have to do it. Then why am I dressed like a total prat while you sit there in a hoodie picking your nose.

I sense anarchy

i was confused for a minute i thought it said hi viz skirt… i thought some one had gone cuckoo but it was me

PMSL!!
Don’t give 'em any ideas!! :open_mouth:

I hate anything hi-viz. I will wear a vest / jacket where I am forced to, but when I see drivers who voluntarily don a high-viz shirt, I really wonder how their minds work. What are they thinking in the morning?? I don’t find a vest makes me sweat any more - even on a hot day.

And why do people ask why you’re not wearing a high-viz ? If you really needed one - they shouldn’t have noticed you. If you see what I mean.

What is your opinion on high-viz shirts?
I have one for every day of the week and I think they’re a great idea.
I have to wear one - company policy.
I wouldn’t wear one unless the job depended on it.
I’d sooner leave the firm than wear one - they’re just wrong!

none of the above
I wear one when It is required by the company I am visiting or it is cold and my hi-vis coat is the warmest thing to hand or when I feel it is needed.

bit like blokes who wear pink shirts

Just came back from a couple of days in Amsterdam with the missus last week, and there is a lot of construction taking place near the railway station, and guess what■■?..

Not a hi viz in sight.

It would seem that the Dutch have it right.

In the same way that the one car driving without headlights on at dusk stands out the most? Does that mean it is safer to drive at night without headlights?

Can’t see Spardo and I wearing them in the workplace unless we want this to happen…

Cattle don’t like bright colours (it doesn’t have to be red) so I never wear my hi-vis on a farm!
