High electricity & gas prices!

Never before have I heard Government Propaganda supporting a utility or any other private firm - on radio ads…

What are they planning next? I wonder…

Big bills to coincide with big mortgage payments to coincide with…

Sudden job loss later this year?

I reckon the Government wants to re-possess everyone’s property in the land - over whatever bill that could not be met by the householder…
Paid off your mortgage?

Watch us secure your utility debts against your paid-off house… And then bankrupt you to take possession of that asset you thought you owned outright!

Be careful with your finances folks - That unnecessary holiday you just took - might well be your last this side of losing your home!

They havnt lowered electric prices cos tories see it as intefering with the market. Its old 80s tory ideology.

They interfered with the bloody market - by sanctioning Russia over something we didn’t vote for to stop!

I thought the Government was supposed to be implemting wot we voted for, rather than everything and anything we didn’t in the wake of the Covid downturn…

Now all we’ve got is a smack in the face from higher Interest rates, higher energy prices, and shortages of things like Fertilizer and fancy transition metals. ALL because of the “Russia Sactions” that seems to be like burning yourself at the stake over the principal of the thing…
Putin made a move that we cannot return. The government - should have let it go at that, like they did in 2014 when Crimea was annexed.

I wonder how many millions of people will get re-possessed, as the interest rates keep going up and up, until the war ends…
assuming they are lying about “Putin being on his last legs” as well - we will have homeless RIOTING people in this country, if we’re not careful.
Maybe this Nottingham thing is a “Mentally Ill” person who’s recently lost everything, and has now gone nuts?

You keep bringing that argument up. You keep infering that we are helping Ukraine because they “are our friend”. We are not exactly doing that. We are helping Ukraine because Putin illigaly invaded Ukraine, and if we let him get away with that, he will not stop at Ukraine. Like with Crimea. “The West” let Putin get away with that one, with the same weak arguments as used in the 1930’s about Czecoslowakia etc, “let him have this one”, “it’s not worth starting a war over”, “he said he won’t annex anything else”, “They are not us”…
I wonder, if you would have let Hitler carry on, unchecked, after he invaded Poland. “Not our friends” etc…
We (and other countries) have bankrupted ourselves over WWII, and countless wars before. We (and other countries, on both sides of the frontlines…) have always rebuild, and created a prosperous society (of sorts) afterwards. Before going to war again…

It is a cycle as old as man. We need to destroy, to be able to rebuild. We are just unfortunate that it looks like we are going to be going through that low point of the cycle in the near future.

What do you make of this? Electricity prices in negative territory for most of last weekend across UK/Europe. reneweconomy.com.au/crazy-world … n-germany/

Be good if they would pass those prices onto the customer - but they never do. The usual argument is “we have to buy it six months in advance” - it’s funny how it works in reality tho, in six months time I bet we don’t get cheap electricity.

This month £40 in credit , within days receive letter from eon saying there putting my d/d up from £110 pm to £138 as I’m going to be in debit this winter , rang them and told them no your not , I’m in credit so you have no reason to put my d/d up now , when / if I go into debit you can put it up , but / if / but / but / if , Listen I’m in credit , leave my d/d at £110 , if I get more in credit we will discuss reducing my d/d
Taking the ■■■■ , just want our money in there bank earning them interest

I don’t pay direct debit…just clear the balance after sending them a meter reading,on or around the 19th of every month.

I’m about £600 in credit - even during times I was skint they’ve always had a few hundred quid in credit when I could’ve done it with it myself.

If you let them install a smart meter, you won’t be able to budget any longer, and THEY get to control YOU at all times.

Imagine the damage they could do with a smart meter if they “accidentally deliberately” over-charged you at a time you are about to miss your third and final payment on the mortgage that will trigger repossession proceedings to commence…?

You get to lose your house. they don’t even get to lose their liberty, for the fraud they’ve just perpetuated upon you…

First time we’ve been in credit since last Autumn, We’re £290 in credit & paying £316/month for electricity & gas with Octopus Energy. I want to get the monthly DD lowered but my missus wants to leave it & build a good reserve up for the Winter months. I’m still not sending monthly readings in as they’re miles out compared to their readings & would incur four figure monthly bills if I did :imp:
This has been going on since OFGEM put us onto Octopus Energy when AVRO Energy went belly up.
Despite me emailng them photo evidence of monthly meter readings & one of their chaps coming out to look at the smart meters it still isn’t sorted out. :imp:

Mine never worked.
Had a new one installed at the beginning of June.
Still don’t work.

If there’s any excess money floating around,I’ll save it in my bank account…not theirs.

Paying by DD doesn’t mean that you’re in credit all the time, and the higher charges vastly outweigh any lost interest.

What higher charges?

They want everyone in credit…“so they can buy energy in advance, and pass on any savings to customers by offering them great deals”

Righto

Lancpudn how do you manage to use so much gas and electricity in the summer

The thing is I don’t, There’s only me & the missus & the only things on through the day is a computer/monitor, A fridge freezer & a TV.
This has been going on for two years, :imp: Just last week Octopus said do not send anymore meter readings in because they don’t correspond with ours. Gedaway :smiling_imp: I’ve been telling them this for all this time with photo evidence of the meter readings. Yet I’m threatened with coming off DD & being put onto pre-payment if I don’t pay what they say I need to pay each month.
Our Octopus flexible tariff.
Electricity is 29.94p/kWh + 49.77/day standing charge.
Gas is 7.51p/kWh + 27.47p/day standing charge.

I have an EV but only put 25kWh in it a month for our usage.
Gas used last month July 37 kWhs
Electric used last month July 170 kWhs
