I have been using hiabs for many years on varying types of work in varying situations, I have my blue competent operator card from the cpcs , I was talking to somebody the other day about it all & he is a freelance instructor / assessor for forklifts , he does this mainly on a Saturday morning for different training companies & for in house like certifications, earns a good wedge too, so the next step up from my blue card is that of an assessor , does anybody do this either full time or freelance , I’m thinking if I can get work to put me on that course then I could assess our drivers in house for free as at the moment its £225 a man every two years , at weekends I could do freelance, who knows it may even become more regular & if the moneys good , well…
there’s a few training companies in this area & plenty of people using hiab … thoughts , advise etc welcome as usual…

If you driver through the week you wouldn’t be able to do the assessing at weekends as it would be classed as other work.
I do the odd bit of freelance hiab training at the mo
youll need to do a train the trainer course and the hiab instructors course aswell thats the best part of £1800 to £2000 if you do it through ALLMI, the train the trainer course last’s aweek and the instructors course is 3 days
just remember to factor in the cost of public liability and professional indemnity insurance anywhere from £300 to 600 aswell
Hopefully I can convince my employers to pay for it in return for doing our drivers assessments, I don’t drive more than 5 hours a day in my work so ill be ok at weekends,…
