Went to a job today. One of my worn slings broke when trying to lift a pallett off. Phoned yatd to explain was told to handball pallett of instead. Beimg the young fit year old guy i am i said no problem gaffer.
Took an extra half hour but its money in the bank.
Went back to yard and had new slings replaced.
Went on my merry journey again. Of yous want forklifts for every job there is the option of carrying one on the back end of truck. But yous are probably too thick or lazy to drive one.
Hmm it doesn’t look good using slings that are worn and especially enough to break you must be a bit of a dimwit to continue using one in such a condition

A good operator will inspect all lifting tackle before use. If in poor condition bin and replace.
Its operators like these that means I have to produce evidence of 6 monthly inspections before starting any lifting operations.

Epitomising everything that is wrong in this industry today!
Did you pin your gold star to your chest when you finished work?
Obviously taken switchlogic’s ‘can do attitude’ advice.
While switchlogic stands back shouting encouragement either while waiting for his truck to be recovered from a ditch, or waiting to recover himself from his latest crash.

It’s drivers like this that will save the guvnors the cost of installing and maintaining craning kit.
Also having now shown willing to be used as a yard/site labourer without complaint.
A driver breaking his back handballing loads isn’t the guvnor’s problem but a knackered Hiab or slings is.
Handball it’s the way forward how can Switchlogic be wrong.

Crack on drive. And you earned an extra £4.50p. Well done sir. Fool
Well I was going to say the op’s a muppet for using dodgy slings, but then the village idiot came on and tried to hi jack the thread to have yet another whinge about how everybody on the face of the earth buggered up his miserable life. These two should be made to live together!

Which part of he didn’t us dodgy slings he handballed the stuff off the wagon instead didn’t you understand.
It was actually handballing loads that zb’d up my spine and those who were responsible for ordering it.
The OP is a muppet for handballing the stuff.
Just like all the handball fans zbing up the job at the expense of someone else’s health not just their own or telling others to have a ‘can do attitude’ while they stay well out of it.
Maybe you should try reading the title of the topics before calling hijack.

I think you mentioned that a couple… of hundred times. Get over yourself.

Like to call to your attention the first line of the OP “Went to a job today. One of my worn slings broke when trying to lift a pallett off.” That says he used a dodgy sling

True, lol. New equipment costs money, a new driver is just a phone call away.
Besides the can always say well he didn’t use proper form when lifting that’s why his back broke. Look here, we’ve trained him to the proper standard he signed off the traininng apapers and all…That he didn’t follow safety procedures when handling heavy loads isn’t our problem so no sickness payout no insurance money.
such as a 2 tonne 5 metre sling is about £10 and in some cases it’s cheaper to buy new equipment at 6 months old than have it inspected and recertified makes you wonder why people are using knackered ones

The worn sling broke.
The guvnor said handball it off instead after that. The guvnor obviously didn’t say bring the load back to the yard and collect new/serviceable slings.
Who would have thought it.
So what did the OP do at that point. He enthusiastically followed the order.
Bearing in mind it doesn’t say that the driver is responsible for the purchase of new or the maintenance of the slings and the guvnor had been informed by then.
It’s an obvious job description precedent scam and the mugs fall for it every time.
