I honestly can’t see we girls have any problems with either showers, toilets or clothing. I mean, did we enter this world of truck driving to expose our selfes as some ■■■■ show off models or what ?
Well I didn’t. And I don’t have a problem with wearing HV vest, and all the rest of the uniform. A pair of work trousers are just what they are,- work trousers ! Not some sorts of delicate fabric draped around your body to show your female curves etc. Just leave me out of all that and let me get on the road for crists sake !
Toilets ?! Well, does it really say “male” toilets ? Or does it actually just say “Toilet” on the door ? I can’t see what the problem is in sharing, you are free to lock the cubicle door after you when doing the business. If anything, I’m sure it’s more embarrassing for the blokes when I walk out and they didn’t consider there could be a girl in the toilets before they got their bit out infront of these very social men type toilets ! When I started driving they told me to go in the office building and use the “clean” toilets for ladies. Ladies my a*** that’s not me !!! I didn’t feel extremely comfortable going in there in my oily boots and what have you, and thought that why should I be treated any different just because I don’t have a tap ?! So I started to use the drivers toilets behind our workshop, just like anyone else.
As for showers,- I do tramping and I really don’t find I have a problem getting washed. Every other MSA is a MOTO and they have good clean showers available for free. Much much better than must truckstop showers. It really doesn’t take much planning to organise your break times to fit in with a shower at an MSA. Where I have seen shared shower fascilities on truckstops etc there’s usually been a lock on the door, so also I don’t see a problem in using shared showers. Finally many costumers have shower fascilities which they’re happy to let you use if you ask nicely. On the odd occation where you wake up in a place with no showers or a sink to do some simple washing it isn’t really the end of the world, is it ?
Vanity, it doesn’t go well with being a lorry driver !
If I ever decide to wear tights to work… by the end of a shift they’d have more flippin ladders than the Avon fire brigade…
Us women put up with the same bloody terrible conditions you guys do. All we ask is a bit of privacy for our doins is all. No bloody chance. The number of times I’ve ended up hiding by the propshaft to water the highway is legion
We have NO facilities on the road. Park up in a layby? Sure… I don’t mind… just expect the roadside verge well watered in the morning

No different to the lads then. We don’t have it any harder - in fact I’m a firm believer that we’ve got it better in many respects…When was the last time you saw a bloke being offered use of the office toilet because it’s cleaner? When was the last time you had to queue to use the women’s shower? And how many of the places which have coin-operated timers on the hot-water for the men have the same for the girls (answer, not many).
I’m with Jo on this one. Act like a driver, be treated like a driver…act like a girl, be treated like one. Discrimination is 98% perception…and 1.5% of what’s left is only banter.
This is (as most of you know) my pet soapbox…so I’ll get off it quick before I get too comfy and you lot get bored (again)…
Owens_girl…you put it in a nutshell! I agree 100% with everything you’ve said.!
Hey Jaqueline…can you make me a Hiviz Kylie corset too?..If I mince round the yard in it & push out me boobies, like some girlies do, 'haps I’ll get tipped quicker!

Hmmmm…I can see it now, a Hi viz Kylie corset & a pair of Steel toecapped stilletoes ( see, Im not even v. sure how to spell it!), a la the star letter in this months Truck & Driver magazine. bangs head on table in dispair

Defo!
There can’t be many women who agree with that letter. Well to be honest, i’m struggling to imagine even one! It just made me laugh my head off. Like most things do!
CM:
At least you girls amongst us don’t pee in a bottle, throw it out the window and leave it to fester on the verge for months. Disgusting bloody habit.

Just out of interest… do or have any of you ladies ever worn a skirt to work?
Well you did ask…
I wore a mini skirt during the whole of my class 2 training.
I wore a mini skirt on my 1st few jobs in class 2 vehicles.
Mini skirts to me, are like what jeans are to others! I wear shorts beneath. So i reveal nothing. And still getting away with it after 17 years! (Hey, i’m not mutton dressed as lamb! I look on average 10 yrs younger than my age. So don’t even go there! ) Mind you, the length is definitely longer now. So more of a short skirt, than a mini.
I always wear mid calf boots with it. So rigger boots don’t feel that much different!
It was just pure luck that the 1st few jobs i got, enabled me to wear it on class 2 work. I stopped wearing it only when it became practical to do so. Mini skirt driving artics? Nah! Don’t be silly!

I never have worn a skirt, though I have worn skimpy tops and makeup on the very odd occasion. I was going to yesterday as the weather forecast said it was supposed to be sunny.

No, although I too have done the strappy top thing (no make-up, don’t own any… ). Two reasons. 1) Non-air con’d cab in summer out for 5 nights a week. Too much sweat is not a good thing. 2) Ok, I confess. Overslept, didn’t want a [zb]ing for being refused because I was late. Suffice to say I got tipped…

HA HA HA HA HA!!! Falls off chair laughing
I only have short legs, so getting up into the truck in a skirt would be a physical impossibility!
Although I can see your point, It would certainly go well with the hi viz corset & steel toe capped stilletoes. Perhaps I should totally show my self up by writing to T & D magazine in reply to ‘that’ letter saying that I have the perfect solution for a girlie uniform?!?
Love,
