Hi there any tips

hi I am new to trucknet and wondering if you have any hints and tips for a newbie I am going to go with scania purflet [anyone used them] starting to get worried but the thing that really gets me worried is the reverse and that’s before I even attempted it [lol] any words of wisdom would be great thanks in advance

Listen to your instructor. Try not to put up mental barriers before you start. Above all, try to relax and enjoy.

Look forward to reading the diary.

Good luck with it. Pete

keep calm, take your time, lots of observation, and when your revesing small movments are key, not locking from side to side all the time, and get yourself set up right before your reverse, it will save alot of hassle, and most importantly enjoy it

Have you read the LGV TRAINNG TIPS sticky ?

We were all apprehensive like you before the training.

If you have a good trainer, they will show you everything you need to pass including the ‘dreaded’ reverse.

Best of luck.

Took me three times to pass from being nervous.try some kalms from boots a natural remedy with lettuce powder to calm nerves or camomile tea is good and at night a horlicks drink and no tv in bed.

Good lads at Scania. In particular Len Locke is very experienced and patient. You wont go far wrong. Say hello to him from me.
Only slight problem with Purfleet at the moment is that the DSA test centre closed a couple of months ago and everyone now uses the Roadtrain customer site and it gets a bit chaotic there at test time with 4 examiners. Only other issue with that area is the London LEZ area means a lot of the tests have to be conducted around the Grays weight limit roads which the examiners have got a council exemption to use but the trainers do not.

You should be fine. Good luck with it.

thanks for the words of advice will keeps you all up to date on how things go .thanks again

Don’t know if you have started yet but wanted to mention the reverse.

I was worried about it too. But you will be shown a way of doing it that is ‘virtually’ foolproof. You are allowed to have the drivers window open and look out. You are allowed to get out and look once (suggest when you think you have finished). You are allowed to take a shunt forwards as far as you like within the yellow box and back (for the price of 1 minor point). I was told on day one that it was the easy part of the test and didn’t believe it. By the end I agreed.

Don’t worry about the obstacle cone in the middle- If you start the whole thing in the correct place and get the lock on quickly it is virtually impossible to hit the marker cone. In fact it might as well not be there.

The only marginally harder bit is working out when to stop without hitting the barrier, but most instructors have a few tricks for each vehicle to help here too. And if you save the “get out and look” until you think you are in the right place, you can correct it without recording a fault. Think of something else to worry about, honestly!
