Hi as the title suggests recently passed my test on the 31st May and got a job at a local haulage firm carrying various loads but mainly steel out of Teesside around the country.
I’ve got a technical question to ask regarding the air duster things. I’m not sure if this is the right area to ask so I’ll hold off until someone can say otherwise.
.
No harm posting your question here - that is what this forum is all about. You may get an answer.
Although this is a newbies forum there are a lot of experienced drivers on here who are happy to help when they can.
Congratulations on getting your job so quickly, too.
Alan
Make sure the air duster tube hangs from the roof of the cab, regardless of the route you need to take to get it there, its the way it is done and makes you look well hard. Failing that but a can of polish and a duster.
Thanks Alan. I passed on the Friday phoned and put a few other applications in to places on the Monday. Was asked if I could do a week and a halfs work free trial which I started on the Wednesday and after that my first load was a daunting 17.5 metre load of steel lol.
The question relates to the air duster as I said. It’s to fit a 57 plate r480 scania. I bought a kit that comes with the t piece and I know there’s a port under a blanking plate under the air brake handle but I need the adapter to go onto the shrader fitting that goes onto the airline but nobody not even scania have them for sale and I’m not sure what size I need for the airline end. All I know is that I need a female screw on or clip on shrader end to go on the port on the dash. Any ideas?

I’ve seen a few peoples cabs have them dangling down. I’d rather not have it up there to be honest. I’d just be happy to get it plumbed in and working first. I’ve read that the t piece goes on an airline under the seat but I don’t want to be cutting hoses when there’s a perfect place to put it without having to mod the seats airline.
I’ve already got some polish and a few dusters but it’s the dirt that’s in the footwell from where I get the steel loaded that’s got inside.
Sorted it. I went to tool station and bought a air pressure gauge that comes with a tube extension with a suitable fitting that screws onto the air line and the other end has the schrader fitting on the other end and for the small outlay I have a spare air pressure gauge and a non cut airline under my seat.

Two things spring to mind.
-
You have t’d your air duster into your hand brake air line?? Surely this isn’t for the best.
-
You are working for free for a week? Is there any guarantee of work after this trial or are you just providing free labour for the experience? How does this work for insurance etc?

Just to clarify
I’ve not T’d anything on the hand brake line. The schrader connection has made it so I don’t need to put the t joiner in the airline under the seat.
As for the work free trial that was nearly 3 months ago now. I didn’t do any driving until my licence came back from the Dvla and then the company had a copy of it. It just happens though that by the time my trial period was over where I was out with one of the drivers for that time my licence came back and so they gave me my own scania to start my 3 month probationary period.
