Hi from another wannabe

Morning all, just thought I’d introduce myself. I’m 29 and live in Rugby, ideal location to peruse this career. I have just booked medical through j coates and paid for the theory, hazard perception and cpc module 2 tests, with an assessment after I have passed those. I had pretty much decided on them before visiting here as they are clearly not a broker (having seen plenty of their own wagons out training). I know that I’m under no obligation to them so if I’m not entirely satisfied with anything I wouldn’t hesitate to try a different trainer (I know I know site sponser lol).they were good enough to reduce the cost of the ‘starter pack’ considerably as I didn’t require any of the material, having already purchased all the relevant dsa books, and apps for practising theory tests.
Has anyone had any trouble getting a d2 form from the you gov site? I’ve requested it twice now and received nothing. Can it be obtained from a post office?
Anyhow about me, I’ve always enjoyed driving (a bit too much probably) and would much rather work alone so I feel this career would suit me. I currently work as a self employed taxi driver (for a company who act as though they own me) putting in some 70+ hours a week over 6 days with little to no holiday (none paid) and no bank holidays so I don’t need long hours explaining to me. Currently I have taken 4 tests, motorcycle A, car B, car and trailer B+E, and the dsa taxi test and passed all first time so I am fairly confident (but not cocky). I plan to take the tests back to back or as near to each other as possible as I want my C+E and it makes sense whilst in learning mode. Any advice welcome and I look forward to joining you all on the road soon.

Hi jimbob -welcome

I applied online, waited 2 weeks and got nothing. Applied again, waited about 10 days - nothing. Actually rang them up, told them I had not received anything and after being told to apply online :unamused: or go to a post office ( which I had done the same day without success) I was told that they would be posted to me. A week later 2 exact brown letters arrived. :unamused:

I think you can only get the forms from big branch Post Offices.

Thanks, glad it’s not just me, will try the main post office in town tomorrow, failing that will give them a call.

Surely your trainer can supply this. It’s something we do as a matter of course and I would imagine they do the same.

Pete

I just printed mine off online.

Thanks Pete.
I’m sure they said on the phone that they do, however the confirmation email only mentioned the d4, just don’t want something daft holding things up lol. Will hopefully be heading up for your open day in a few weeks. Should I bring my own coffee?

Pretty sure you can’t maybe you’re thinking of the d4 medical form.

Should I bring my own coffee?

So you’ve heard then LOL

I thought you had been kidnapped by some dodgy character.

Dodgier than me? :open_mouth:
Nah, just been working a lot…
Did 84 hours last week over 7 days, and only having a couple of days off now. Hence my return!
But this will be a fleeting visit, as I’ve about another month on this contract.

P.S. To prevent any Newbies becoming confused with my hours, my current job is out of scope!

Well it’s felt like an eternity between each step but the end goal is in sight now, passed the theory (100%) hazard perception and cpc case studies tests.
Had an assessment drive with j coates in Northampton, in an 18 tonne manual and went pretty smoothly in my opinion, couple of kerbs very early on but soon got the hang of it and the slap over box felt like second nature, was even complimented on my use of gears as apparently many struggle at first. Whilst the gentleman (forgot his name) that took me on the assessment came across as a great tutor there were a few issues that didn’t impress me, firstly I felt they were based (i say based but its just lorrys in a car park on an industrial estate shared with another training company) too far from the test centre (weedon), meaning a lot of time just getting to and from test routes. Secondly I was told that a day would be spent driving to somewhere in leicestershire to practice reversing (more time not on test routes). Having already been to Pete’s open day, seeing the trucks, facilities and meeting the trainer’s the choice was simple. I called up and was booked onto my cat c training and test, as well as the cpc mod 4 by the extremely helpful Aaron. So that bring us up to date so far, training starts on Monday morning with Chris as my instructor and frankly I can’t wait, I wish I’d done this year’s ago.

Sounds like good progress so far. Good luck.

Well done for choosing the route you want to take to get what you want.

There is nothing wrong with being confident, just don’t overthink things and don’t get over confident, try and strike a balance between confidence and self belief but keeping your ego in check, ego has a habit of biting you in the ■■■.

Having said that I am sure you will do fine, there is a bit of a way to go yet but it’s in sight.

Have a look at my signature for a link to my C+E training diary if you have not already seen it. All joking aside in that thread I was pleased just to pass even though everyone had faith in me, felt the vehicles and training and set up were perfect and conducive to getting a good result.

There are of course other training providers that are available, although I would happily use PSTT again should I need to but as I don’t think I will ever bother with a Bus licence nothing at the moment that I am going to need from them at the moment.

Good luck with everything and I hope your training goes well.

Oh and as a wise Evil8Beezle once said to me “don’t take your eyes off the ball”.

As much as I hate to say it he was right.

I’ve been following your diary, congratulations on the pass. I’ve driven profesionaly in one sense or another pretty much since I left school and have 4 first time passes under my belt all 3 minors or less (clean sheet on the last one) so I am confident taking a van test although I take on board what you say about cockiness and i understand things can go wrong on the day. I think it’s the c+e that will test my nerves a little more when I get round to it.

the B+E test is done in the same format as the LGV tests so that should make things a bit easier

My guess is that you enjoy doing the tests … am I right

Haha bang on, no idea why but they just don’t phase me at all. The b+e was a few years ago now at weedon lgv test centre, figured it would be more relevant to the c+e test though.
