Hgvexpress training with act

Hi everyone. This Is a question about Hgvexpress. I`m just a car driver at the moment and want to get my Hgv licence. The guy from Hgvexpress told me that along with all the usual training, medical, theory you will get ACT training which would help negate the need for experience when applying for your first riving job. They also say they will get you interviews. There price is competitive compare to my local Trainers…Scania, GTG.
There is a feeling of to goo to be true…Does anybody have experience of them?
Thanks Tony.

Sounds like a broker.Stay away. There is a thread on here with proper trainers.Check that out.

When comparing two sets of prices find out how many days or hours you get

A common trick of the brokers is to quote you less for a ‘full’ course but when you compare exactly how much training you get then you find out that the broker full course is 4 days and the lgv school full courses are 5 days

Always visit and talk face to face before paying any money

One easy way to find out if its a broker - demand an assessment drive (pay at time of assessment) before you pay anything for a course - a broker will refuse you point blank because they know you will talk to the proper school who has the trucks and go direct for a better deal

Brokers want your money and then hold onto it for as long as poss to get interest off it

Also - I do not know any broker that can arrange for your initial mod 4 practical if you need that

If you do need mod 4 initial driver cpc then find the price for that before booking a course with a trainer

There is no training that will negate the need for experience. But sound initial training with a comfortable pass always helps. Better trainers will often have opportunities for new drivers. We are in that group but we never make any promises about finding folk jobs or interviews. But the fact is that we are able to, at the very least, point you at the agencies that have clients who will accept new drivers. And sometimes we have direct jobs that folk have asked us to help them with.

Never book without visiting; the only exception is to book on rock solid recommendation.

The name you mention IS a broker.

All the best, Pete

As Pete says, HGVExpress is a broker. In simple terms, brokers don’t do the training, they simply take your money and then pass you over to a real trainer, usually the cheapest one they can find. You may be lucky and get a good trainer or you may not be.

Either way, a broker will make a profit from the money you give them. They will charge you as much as they can and then pay the trainer as little as they can get away with.

Fair enough, the trainer should make some profit from you but are you happy for a broker to also profit just for passing you on to the cheapest trainer they can find in your area?

Visit some real trainers, see their vehicles, meet their instructors, have assessment drives and get a good idea of what you will be paying for, then make your choice.

There are some reputable trainers on this forum who will not take work from brokers because they consider it immoral to contribute to these rip-off merchants.

Peter Smythe is one such trainer.

As said go & visit several trainers before parting with any money see which 1 you like best have an assessment drive to see how you will feel

Daftvader, ROG, Peter Smythe, only adam and animal, thankyou very much for your reply`s. This has made my mind up to go with a local trainer. I have Ctts, Scania,GTG, Dalkeith training close by so i can take it to them for a face to face. This has been really helpful in taking the first move. Peter if i was close to you i would have come round to see you!

You can still go to Peter if you wish just stay in the B&B

I did this with Flair training ( John LGV trainer )

A lot of other people have travelled & stayed over

Hi Animal. That crossed my mind!! It`a all done to money i guess.

Next step is phone Peter on monday see what he has to offer

As well as a few others

Firstly, have you considered the fact there is hee haw work in the central belt of Scotland just now?

Secondly, what the hell is ACT?

Please stay away from these brokers. You will be doing yourselfe a big favour. Rog, Pete, John, Animal are right…just go local.
