I let my licence run out in 1988 can I get back driving 7.5 now for last 15 years got cpc

God I hope not.

Dont mean to be dismissive but I was three when you last drove a truck. Should you have to train again given that the kit and the job has changed drastically in that time?

I think medical and Dcpc and you’ll probably be good to go.

depends if you was black mafia .cowboys or farmers and can you still march at 140 plus ex 1 rgj here

gave my hgv driving up a few year ago now due to a leg injury … haven’t missed it that much to be honest …celer et audax more like swift and bald nowadays …in answer to your question medical cpc .maybe a refresher course good to go

Pass D4 medical and get all LGV/PCV categories back no time limit BUT if passed before 1984 then you may have an issue as records did not get computerised before then

Check with DVLA to see if they still have records on your previously valid LGV categories before going for D4 medical

I reinstated my license after a break away from it. Trucks aint really changed that much. Some are full of electronics that I just basically ignore and drive them ‘old skool’ style with no need for crud like cruise control etc.

Some drops are just as disrespectful as they ever were, so no changes there. There more H&S bullshine than is good for your soul in some places, but that’s the way of the world nowadays, where you need a risk assessment to use a paperclip.

I use cruise control all the time. All you do is press a button on the steering wheel and you can relax your accelerator leg. Once you get used to it you will use it all the time. FACT

Problem I have with cruise control is it doesn’t constantly monitor traffic and adjust to maintain the safe separation distance us ‘old skool’ drivers know needs to be there. Cruise control often puts drivers too close to the truck in front, ditto for car drivers too.

the other issue with CC is that it does not shut off if the driver has a medical emergency

one form of CC has been developed where the speed stays constant as long as the drive keeps their foot on the accelerator between fully down or fully up so if an emergency happens the vehicle slows down

Won’t get used much in the tipper/skip sector then!

And cruise control actually uses more fuel ,than the right if driven correctly

But really that is besides the point. We know that on anything but a dead straight, billiard table flat long run a well trained driver with a manual can rival an auto and cruise control. Unfortunately the people who put their logo at the top of the paychecks each month want it done their way. They’re paying the bills so let em have what they want.

Wife’s lease car has this ‘adaptive’ CC.

Weird feeling sometimes, as you wonder why you’re slowing down and then speeding up…

As all it’s doing is keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front…

why is it beside the point ■■? cruise control has ben mentioned in the thread ,all I did was mention it isn’t as fuel efficient as people think it is …There is no mention of bosses auto and how bosses want a vehicle driven …Though if it was a specific thread about how to drive the coy want it ,then fair enough

This:

I let my licence lapse in the 70s and in the 90s when I wanted it back I was told that the computer had never heard of me. The nice young lady in Swansea told me that if I sent them my old pasteboard licence they would give me a shiny new one, and so they did.
