Hi all,
We’re looking to store a truck and trailer somewhere between J13 and J18 of the M6 (not actually on the motorway ). Does anyone know of anyone that may be able to help us? Any ideas / things to think about?
Cheers

Re-register it in portugal, then leave it on the slip out from a MSA, you should get at least a few days free storage out of that
just a question but
why does it need storing and for how long?
jon
alikat - i guess i’ve got Stafford, Keele and Sandbach to use
jonboy - Thinking about it, it’s more like parking! It’ll be used once or twice a week (at all sorts of odd hours of the day) so it needs somewhere to live on its off days.

So that’ll be it’s registered operating centre then, or is it a private vehicle?
You could always tax and mot it,then you could leave park it anywhere…

I was going to cross that bridge later gulp
Given that the truck always has the same load (i.e. the company transports the stuff to a site… uses it to do the days work… and then packs it all back again) do we need a operators license (my guess is yes but i’m happy to be wrong )

yep i would have thought you would need one, unless its not registerd for goods…
think this has relevance here:
Basically, yes…you need an O-licence.
The question is, what sort?
If the stuff is your own (and you are not actually getting paid for moving it), then you could get away with a Restricted Licence…and therefore not need a CPC Holder.
If not, then it’s a Standard UK Licence I’m afraid.
Bear in mind when looking for an Operating Centre that you will need:
There are a whole stack of other hoops you have to jump through, although again these vary depending on whether your licence is Restricted or Standard…but that’s a whole other thread!!!
Thanks for all the info… a helpful can of worms
Any advice on where to start looking for a parking place whose O license i can use (for the right sum of cash)?
Cheers
Andrew
There is only one persons O Licence you can use and that would be yours.
im sure the ministry will have a parking place for it if it ain’t got a o licence and you get caught using it…

Indeed. I’m trying to do the right thing hence my dumb questions. The powers that be make it easy don’t they
The fact the powers that be don’t make it easy is actually a very good thing if you think about it.

I’m trying like crazy to do the right thing but getting consistant information is almost impossible.
So i’ve thought about it… Making it hard is good. Making it impossible is bad.

It may be hard but it is in no way impossible.
Just about everything you need to know can be found here, here, and here.
You can also download all the application forms you need here.
That is all good, consistent information straight from the horses mouth.

Start by thinking of any “Private” Industrial Estates that you know of. Former airfields and suchlike.
Railtrack (or its successor) They still own masses of land and often lease areas for HGV parking, although they do tend to want their moneys worth.
Beg, borrow, or find a Library that has a copy of the RHA book that lists all of it’s member by area, then start phoning around. If a yard is already approved as an OC, then getting permission for another Operator should be less troublesome.

I think that you should worry more about the o licence before you even use the thing???it is an offence to use the said vehicle without o licence !!!
