HGV SOLOUTIONS OR LOWBRIDGES.COM can anyone tell me which is the best between these 2,http://www.hgvsolutions.com/ or
lowbridges.com/ and if you buy low bridges and key fuels transport cafes when you pay do you download onto sat navs or do you get a cd rom disc thanx lez
With lowbridges, the download is sent to you via email
(its updated frequently, as data changes)
regards 2xQ
you can get the keyfuels stuff free at www.keyfuelsdriver.net
the low bridge data used to be available free from the gps forums in Alix’s sig - which I will remember soon after posting this, but after these two companies “acquired” the data the guy producing it was a little upset and I’m not sure if he produces it any more!!
While waiting for my new sat nav to arrive I am pondering the very same question, which should i pay for to have low bridge data. The low bridges looks like the best bet at the mo as it is a one off payment & free updates, but the hgv solutions boasts over 3000 bridge sites but only has a 1 year subscription but does however come with over poi’s.
Hmmmmm!!!..
I could download either one free but wont get the updates in the future as for disk i wouldn’t worry just make a hard copy on a cd-r & put it aside.
If I was good with a computer and satnav, I would download it myself. Until I get a brain I put the destination in the Satnav, check the route it sends me on and then I check the route in my truckers atlas for low bridges en route. If anyone has a Tom Tom 910 and knows how to upload/download low bridges onto it without wiping it all out can you let me know?
Dangerousdave il keep it short n simple firstly download tom tome home 2 from the website & do a data backup & save anything important on your tom tom, then you can use a simple file sharing program like Shareaza Shareaza - Brindando P2P Juntos or other p2p program & search for & download low bridges. but I would suggest practicing with misic files & working up to exe. files thats what i did. Or I beleive that if you serch the threads on here you will find the acual low bridges file link to download ive seen it but dont know what thread then once downloaded place it in the relevant tom tom file (lowbridges.com will tell you whch file) using file explorere & update your tom tom device.
Untile ive actually updated mine myselfe i cant help you anymore.
But if you want to download music for free & then work on to more complicated programs the above is a good way to start.
I would howerver create a Download file in my documents & set it to save completed files to that folder.
I hope this gives you some insight.
Thanks mate.
Well I got my new tom tom 720 today set it up & then paid for the bridgeX data lowbridge.com,
Man that is some setting up to do you have to enable alerts for every POI (Bridge Height) & set the warning sound, it took me nearly 30 minutes to set up once i got into the swing of it.
Im gonna take it with me tommorrow & see how it goes.
Suggest you set the bridge alert to 8000ft and plus 15MPH
8000ft buys you about 2 minutes avance warning when your traveling at 40mph
(and the 15MPH shuts the darn alarm up, when you slow down/stop,
or if your creaping forward in traffic)

Nice one cheers, i followed the instructions & set it up, a bit long winded to do but i even thought 500 yards was a bit to short & was thinking more like 1000.
But it did work well today even though i stayed on the mtorway it picked out a couple of 11ft bridges of the m25.
ill change the settings later, itll take a couple of days to get it set how i want it by trial & error…
Hi robntl & Crew
If you get alerts about bridges which are not on your calculated route
( usualy bridges under a fly-over your crossing )
This is an ERROR in the POI database, and you should report them to the auther.
To be flagged a warning for a bridge on an exit /side road, less than a few hundred feet off the junction is quite normal.
Re 8000ft warning
Personally I find this ideal,
as it gives adequate time to find a suitable [legal] stoping place
in which to park while I plan an alternative route.
I just got a TomTom720 today from Halfords £199 - so can anyone verify that 1 site is better than the other than ? Thanks.
Well ive been tinkering with mine for a few days now & I think ive got it set how i want it with some nice warning tone & so on & so on, I decided to set my low bridge alerts to 1000 yards & saftey cameras to 30 seconds & it all works fine. I only get allerts when im nearby i.e just of the road when im close & the 30 seconds for safty cameras is better than the standard 15 i find.
Ive shown it to a few other drivers some of which are set in there ways & say its no good but i find its only as good as you set it/use it & you need some common sense but having the ability to set your route to go via waypoints is the way to go rather than just blindly following what it says (something I could never do).
I cant fault the lowbridges (bridgex) ive even zoomed out & browsed the maps to see what bridges are around & there are tons all over the uk. I have however passed one known 16ft bridge which was not on the data base.
Pesonally I think its brilliant…
