Hi guys
I’ve got a tom tom Sat nav… Can it be upgraded to hgv nav… Or does anyone have one they can recommend?
Anyone?
To answer the first question, no there is no system for ‘upgrading’ a car satnav to an LGV one. As to recommendations you will find a number of threads on here about them and everyone has their own favourite, best to decide on a price limit and see what options you have.
Its been a long while since you could upgrade to lgv, some old models you could buy an sd card with the upgrade.
If you call tomtom sales they will give a discount on a new unit to existing customers, afaik between 10-20%.
I’m no computer expert so I could get shot down here…
The older tomtoms can be changed from car to truck but the newer stuff has a different operating platform, probably designed to stop this happening.
I have a 6000, easy to use but far from flawless, am getting to the stage where I use google maps on a cheapish tablet (tethered to my phone) and keep my eyes peeled for weight limits and bridges.

You can’t upgrade a car sat-nav for trucks. Truck sat-navs generally cost upwards of £300. Garmin is selling its Dezl 770 (a fairly rugged 7in unit) for about £350 and it’s likely to be superseded soon (the 580, the new 5in model that replaces the 570, is already out).

I suggest searching the archives (click “advanced search” in the top right-hand corner of the page) for opinions about TomTom and other competing brands. I very much don’t recommend TomTom as their truck units are slow; some will recommend getting a cheapo unit off eBay but if you want support and ongoing mapping updates then I suggest one of the major brands (Garmin and Snooper being the other two) even though they’re more expensive.
