hi guys ! need a bit of advice on hgv sat navs, are they any good and are they worth the money ? or would i be better off with a tom tom and using good old common sense regarding low bridges and weight limits. i will also be using it in my car also so is it worth getting a hgv sat nav ?
i’d recommend a sat nav to anyone so long as you use it as a guide only and don’t follow it blindly. as to which one how much money do you want to spend?

save your money tom tom and a truckers atlas. But the biggest problem you,ll find is half the time you,ll have the wrong post code.I always google the delivery point saves a lot of hassle.

then i’d buy a tt540 and download the truck version yourself, theres plenty of advice on here just do a search or tomtom truck
I use a snooper s2000 truckmate for container work, this means everything from rdc’s to houses it is pretty good but not perfect. Personally I think it is worth the extra money but Im sure people on here with no experience of it will tell you otherwise, the same as those who have never used satnav will tell you to just use maps and ask directions.
Honestly it is a fallible tool and you will need to back it up with old fashioned methods but I can guarantee that it has been a huge help to me.
got me tomtom truck yesterday all seems ok so far

how much did it cost mate ?
buy any go 520/530/etc as long as it has a slot for sd card
then
look on internet for western european maps for tom tom
and look for navcore for said maps
Western_and_Central_Europe_TRUCK_835_2472
Navcore 8.390.1907 For Go7000, go520/720/920, Go530/730/930 & TRUCk
easyusetools is needed to set it all up plus you will need a 4 gig sd card
NOTE: This map has 2 meta files. BOTH must have a .dct. At the present time, EasyUseTool and Easyusetool Frontend below are the ONLY Keygens capable of generating both .dct files.
For EasyUseTool: Put the maps .pna, .meta & .tmeta files in the “insert meta from Map here” folder. Put your deviceID (without a space like ABCDEFGHIJ) in the DeviceID.txt file.
Use “RunMeforDCT.cmd”. Copy both generated .dct files into the map folder.
total cost is what ever you pay for tomtom and sd card the rest is free apart from your time and effort
it cost me £435 after looking around that is roughly the cheapest price i could find it for. all seems good so far. I know it is dear but i see it as an investment. my work is always in london and the south east so railways comming in from every direction. I like the abillity tomtom home gives you to download poi’s like truckstops laybys butty vans and all that.

This should improve paper map reading skills
Just had a look at that lane on local live bit like google earth from what i see the only reason to go down there with a truck is to do a farm delivery . they must have been stupid for the time it take down lanes it quicker nearly all ways to stick to the main roads looks like they trying to use it as a cut thought from the A53 to A520 it would be slow in a car the A520 is riddled with speed camera’s any way i go to Kerry gold in Leek from Stafford and use the A520.
I use Autoroute with bridge heights on it use it like a map you can see the post code of the delivery point then plan your own route to that address never have a problem its great for big towns you can see which side you need to be most people have laptops now and i see the 2010 version off microsoft web site UK is only £45 a lot cheaper and for the shopping trolley boys you can down load free of charge nearly all the super market shop sites.
