HGV`s through the town of Millau

I had no funds for the toll, and had the pleasure of going through the town, there is a graveled truck parking area as you by pass the town, with plenty of places to eat, with a light load, the hair pin bends coming down the steep hill was ok,but would not like to try it,with a heavy load,in rain,or icy conditions.
In the future, with more time to spare,it would be an ideal base for kayaking, hiking, and the town has a spa health resort, for health treatments and ailment cures.
No ADR is allowed in Milllau.

Yea I used to regularly stop there, you used to be able to park on the left opposite the supermarket. Haven’t been through Millau since the viaduct opened though, it is hard work.

I loaded 4 pallets of leather there for Casablanca once.Drove right thru the centre, nice little town. The boss of the factory took me out for lunch. First class.

Have you thought about giving up?

Look on the bright side, in the old days it was the usual suspects- ’ No diesel, No permits, No money!’ Things have improved dramatically !

You remember the permits with four stamps in it,limited trips,British International, that was Peter Taplin,(The poisoned dwarf.),and the MD Tim Allen, who bought the Public Coal business in Sholing,Southampton, would send me out with expired permits, and get fined in Cherbourg by the Douanes, but when asked if i had tobacco, and the secret raised Frenchman`s raised eye brow, the sign for a BUNG.Then head to head with the bike Gendarme that was the famous Pinocio, with the rumour he was following an Irish or UK wagon too closely, the driver braked and caused the bike cop to end up with broken bones, then the big chip on the shoulder when he was back on cop patrol, with binoculars on top of Cherbourg hill, waiting for his easy target and prey, for cash fines.

,(The poisoned dwarf.),…The poison dwarf, shurely?

Isn’t the toll only about €8 or so? Would cost more than that in fuel dragging yourself down there and back up again.

Was thinking the very same myself :open_mouth:

Jesus wept, they’re not all locked up are they eh?! :unamused:

But the Autoroute to the viaduct is free. So your only paying €29 for the whole route effectively, which isn’t bad. In comparison Metz to Strasbourg is €36. … and you don’t get that view either
