My older brother has not renewed his HGV licence due to illness and is now fit to drive again but the original licence ran out in 2004 so can he just renew it which his dr says he will pass the medical or is there more involved…Anybody know?

I believe he will have to re submit a medical and do ALL relevant theory and practical tests.
That is what my wife had to do when her car licence did not get renewed after 10yrs for medical reasons. When she wanted to drive again she had to do it all.

He will be OK, I let mine run out for 7 years, I emailed Swansea they said there’s no limit just pass your medical, I did that sent it off and it was back in 8 days.

mine was not for medical reasons, I just let it expire as I changed my job, so not really sure how you stand on that one. Just mail or phone them there very helpful, I mailed them so that I had proof of there reply, before I spent £85 on a medical. Best of luck with it.
AFAIK he has ten years to renew without taking any more tests. Of course, if he needs a medical they will tell him, but otherwise he just sends the cash and the old licence (and his digi card?) and they renew it.

at the moment there is no time period on getting it back people have renewed it 10 or 15yrs on,just need 2 fill in relivant foms and pass medical and hey ho,think there was a post on this subject a while ago if any 1 can find it
