then YOU’RE HGV won’t expire 
I would imagine that is when you will be required to take your 5 yearly medical

No, you never actually lose your LGV licence you just lose the entitlement to use it.
You will need to have the LGV medical to renew your LGV entitlement that’s all

Recently renewed mine last month for my first I was 45. DVLA posted all the forms out in plenty of time, had my medical and just posted it all back to them.
