HGV in the 3rd lane?

Not sure if this is legal or not? What does Trucknet think?

No it isn’t

Of course it isn’t*

*Unless Ferry rules applies

Not really but cracking on like a boss so permitted.

No real harm done there road looks quiet enough, did it myself a few weeks back on the M5 round Birmingham car was being a ■■■■ as a lorry was trying to overtake going up one of the hills I was light, nipped out round the two of them in the third lane, only for a police Range Rover to come up behind me got a flash of the blue lights and a wag of the finger. Think he could see the car was dicking the other lorry about plus the road was quiet so again no harm done.

two “MT” box jockeys acting erratically in lanes 1&2, so for safety reason moved into lane 3

Not sure about trucknet but me personally thinks “who gives a ■■■■?”. Is it really such a big deal and worthy of a “oh my god looks at this guy” thread?
No ones in harms way, no one is in danger and no ones even being held up behind him.

To be fair, he’d probably sat behind those two doing 52 and 52.1 respectively and thought sod it, I’m out. He was more than likely only there about 6 seconds, so while it’s illegal as I said earlier, it’s not a major issue

It might be Angus and his mate, in which case it’s legal. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve often wondered if there’s a legal challenge to that, seeing as a marked car can only break the law in an emergency situation. Disabling speed limiters and using the outside lane etc to detect potential law breaking, is hardly an emergency

Looks like it’s early in the morning so perhaps night time rules apply in which case it’s legal. Also maybe the 2 box jockeys had been neck and neck for the last 10 miles so again perfectly legal .

You sure, I thought it was an incredibly realistic oil painting he had knocked up whilst steering with the other hand.

Personally id say entrapment as they would be breaking the law to catch people breaking the law exceeding speed for class of vehicle. You could challenge it but they would wriggle out of it no doubt

Tosh - there is no mention in the relevant legislation about police cars etc being marked in order for the exemption from speed limits, not stopping at red traffic lights and passing on the wrong side of a “keep left” to apply. Neither is there any requirement (in law) for it to be “an emergency”. I also think Angus and his chums would be struggling to find a legal exemption allowing them to use the offside lane on a Motorway (assuming the other lanes are running normally, no abnormal loads etc).

Is it not technically still illegal for them to speed and go through red lights etc even if it is an emergency?
