HGV Awareness Session in Bristol

Took Big Bertha (and her baby, Twizy) to a client’s site in Bristol for a HGV awareness session as part of their Transport Day…

Do you think that the people who participate in this treat it with the same sceptiscism/indifference that drivers treat the DCPC?

No, as participation is voluntary, they only have to get involved if they want too - and they get a free Yorkie bar…!!

“Shakes head and weeps”

Do people still associate Yorkie bars with truckers? Those ads were 35 years ago…great marketing by the original ad company if so!

Amazingly so, even by people who weren’t born then, let alone old enough to remember the advert.

They’re not for girls.

what’s an “HGV awareness session” ?
what’s all the purple bucket things for?
What’s the silly little car for ?

WTF is going on ?

I think it’s a great idea, the more people who are aware of our size, weight, speed & blindspots, the better.

When I attended a speed awareness course 3ish years ago, (after doing a mind blowing 47 in a 40) I was amazed at how many didn’t even realise that 90% of us are restricted to 56mph (the other 10% are above the law/Irish/Scottish/Flipflops/Older-‘Knackered’ wagons or just Rougues & Ruffians [emoji6])

They didn’t even realise how long a fully freighted 44tonner takes to get up to full speed or how much room we need for turning [emoji15]

Good for you. Cyclist awareness, vulnerable road user awareness and HGV awareness go hand in hand.

I’d love to come and have a go in the Twizzy. To an old motorcyclist they look to be a more fun option than a quad.

If you haven’t grown up around trucks or driven them, then people are clueless. Anything that helps people to understand from a truck drivers perspective and how to keep themselves safe, particularly cyclists, has to be a good thing.

They must’ve used the same marketing company for Eaton twin splitters :unamused:
