does anyone know how or what i would use to connect a camera to tv (RCA) Video Cable to my laptop? i have a monitor connection on the lappy along with the normal usb ports.

What you need is a decent USB tv stick (along with the USB 2 port to plug it into).
My Happuage WinTV H900 (50€ in Germany) came with a plug in adapter to let it accept such signals, and the RCA sockets to go with it.
Have a look on Maplins website. They have all sorts of cables and converters on there.
its usually an S-video cable you need to connect to yoru laptop, its a round one with a yellow insides (if that makes sense),
most laptops nowadays have an S-video in on the side normally
