In keeping with some of the recent posts about sat navs and drivers hours which said a lot about the o/p member heres a serious question from me as I am at my whit’s end here.
I suffered a worse case scenario this morning, I got in the cab and my peek a boo tassled curtain bottom was on the seat, I sat on it and actually broke off 2 clips holding it on to the runner ,… luckily there was no tear to my curtain or tassle related damage.
I rang my boss to put in a defect and asked him if I should carry on, his phone must have been faulty as I heard some expletives, and the word ‘‘off’’ and then it went dead.
Anyway I have decided to soldier on with it, and being an old style trucker I have carried out a temporary get me home repair.
The thing that I am worried about is if I get pulled by DVSA, is this a GV9 prohibition offence, and will I be parked up with those air pipe things attached to my tyres. How many hours rest do I take with these attached, and when freed can I do a full 24 hour shift as long as I promise to use a sat nav to complete my journey.
Oh and how long do I get to carry out this repair, and can I put my tacho on rest when doing it.
Thanks in anticipation.
It just goes to prove that Driver CPC isn’t working when experienced drivers are asking questions like this. There really should be a compulsory tassel test included.
I would advise don’t go anywhere until a proper certified repair is carried out. When/If you ever make it back to base you might want to consider booking yourself on a Driver CPC course where the trainer is definitely an ex-driver. That way you can be sure he will know what he is talking about.
Frankly you should have refused to take it out until a repair by an authorised machinist had been effected. You should then have gone to your doctor because stress like that can have long term consequences, for you an other road users.
But, since you have gone out, just hope you don’t get a pull otherwise once they find one defect they’ll be visiting the yard, looking at the rest of the trucks in the fleet. Be lucky if anyone has a job come Friday.
I defected my old TGX 26.440, because some Numpty had knocked the Full Spot off between the 26 & the 440, got it Glued back on, so I feel that you have every right to defect your Tassle & get it Retassled as soon as possible.
I would recommend that you give DVLA a call & explain your Dilemma thus entitling you to carry on driving for up to 15 days, whilst you wait for repair.
id take a Stanley blade to your card, then set fire to it and apply for a new one just to be on the safe side…then seek trauma counselling with a spell off work after you have een debriefed on your return to the yard.a no win no fee service may be advisable in case you can prove it was someone elses fault that they came loose in the 1st place…the sad fact of the matter is that if it wasn’t a post from one in the know,it wouldn’t look out of lace with the guff the plobber fannies genuinely ask on here, sad but true…
on 2nd thoughts, mabey best just to take the unit to a quiet ind est and burn the lot, just to be on the safe side…park within a 20 mile radius of a halting site and that should be alibi enough for anyone…
Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to post robroy. I am fairly new here and was worried that people wouldn’t take my problem seriously.
I am just in the process of moving house and was wondering if someone could recommend a company that makes those LED thingies that go on the back wall of the cab. We are moving into a new build you see and I want to mount one above my bed just to ensure that anyone randomly driving up the street is aware of exactly what they are passing.
I would like a Bovis Homes logo with a swooping eagle holding an “Ashworth” scroll in its talons. I don’t want people to get confused and think that I am actually living in a Kenley, which looks very similar but has a 205mm narrower garage and no en-suite for the second bedroom. I realise that I may have to compromise on the length of my tasselly pelmets to ensure that my medallion is fully visible kerbside but feel it is worth it to gain an authentic custom feel.
I am also thinking of fitting stainless steel fascia boards, guttering and downpipes. Ordinary houses are OK, but I think we can all agree that shiny things just make people realise that you are an individual of great taste and substance. I will also be calling the house Fab after the classic Bovis 4 bed of the same name from the early-mid seventies. Ergo I will be requiring a Stainless steel nameplate in authentic script.
Finally I am going to colour code the door handle & letterbox to the main building colour. I am doing this mainly because I have run out of other things to paint, and polishing the other mods won’t take up quite enough of my Saturday afternoons.
Kerragy, don’t forget your highly imaginative ‘Three Steps to Heaven’ written near the bottom of the front step and the always amusing cuddly toy or maybe a Minion peering through the window in the back door.
As for Robroy, well, I don’t know how he dare call himself a professional taking a truck out in that condition, even the Dozy one has more sense than that!!
I always thought you had load bearing curtains. Well obviously not. You’ll have to use appropriately rated ratchet straps to secure yourself to the seat from now on. None of this seatbelt malarkey.
