prob easy one for you lot, but just don’t want to get it wrong & end up with a delay.
I’ve done my medical (D4) to go with my application for provisional.
Do I need to send proof of ID if I’m sending my original photo driving license with it ?
Am I right in reading that to apply for the provisional there is not cost ?
The form is clear as mud.

There is no requirement to send in additional proof of identity.
Any applications for provisional entitlement after the first one (car presumably for most people) are free of charge.
No ID needed unless for a name change (or gender 
).
My photo licence was out of date so I needed to send a photo with £17 postal order/cheque. If your licence is within 56 days (IIRC, it says on the form) of expiring you will have to do the same. They use your photo from your current licence otherwise, which is free.
It took me a few re-reads of the information to be sure what I had to do.
Thanks guys, just wanted to be sure, they used my photo from my car license for my digi tachocard a couple of weeks back so all should be good.
Didn’t want to give them any excuse to send it back.

When you’re doing the form also tick the box for a D provisional. There’s no reason not to and it will save you the bother of adding it later if you ever do want to go over to the dark side.
Also, make sure you don’t get the R2 version.
I ended up getting a C3PO sent by mistake.
Tick just C & D on the D2
