Help trying to conect 2 computers

I have bought a new computer and the new one does not have msn on it,so i am trying to connect my old one to my new one.

Will i beable to access my desktop on the old computer this way.
Also what do i need to do this, and how do i do this.
Also will i need a monitor for the old pc or can i do it without.

Hope someone can help,it’s doing my head in.

why cant u just d/l msn on ya new one?

 :open_mouth:

It came preinstalled on on the old computer.
It is on the new one but they are asking for £60 per year to access it and on my old one it free.
I need it for my e-mails.

If both have Ethernet ports you can buy a crossover cable and connect them. The cable costs about £3 and must be a ‘Crossover’ type not just an ordinary patch lead type. There is a bit of setting up as well but you can use XP’s networking wizard to do this. Post back if you get stuck.

What services are you using on MSN that cost £60?

Thanks for that

The new computer came with msn on it.
But when i tried to connect to it they either wanted £7.00 per month or £60 per year just to use the e-mails etc.

dont try and connect that one
messenger.msn.com/Download/
and click on the already have an account

Who are “They” ■■

If the two computers are you’re own you can just do the crossover cable option. and network them. Probably the easiest… However.

It depends what you want from it, and how you are prepared to go about it. You can’t just plug it in and get it all to work.

It might be easier if you can find a friend locally who knows about computers to transfer it across for you.

Alternatively, we can try and help you each step of the way in here, but it could take a while…

One option you have is if both computers have USB ports you can get a USB hard drive and move the files between the two…

As Cattleman replied ,sounds as though your trying to set up a new account rather than an existing one . Beleive it would save alot of headaches to find a knowledgable freind locally for this problem .it’s not diffecult but would take a long time to get through it in this forum .

Do you only want to keep the old PC because it has MSN on it■■?

If not, just get MSN on the new one and ditch the old one - easy!! :sunglasses:

that is what i was trying to explain lol seems a lot to go thru jsut to get msn - fair enough if u want 2 pcs cos your going to use them both then go for it!

all new pcs with xp come with net passport - its a pain! u just have to ignore that one and d/l msn messenger again as an already registered user!

good luck

Thanks alot guys.
I have downloaded msn explorer i am going to try and connect them with wirless network so i can have one in the bedroom.

Just get rid of anything from MSN or anybody else who expect you to pay them even more money. They already get money from the PC builders for using the software

I have to pay freeserve and that annoys me, being free  I am trying to sell my TV because I refuse to pay for another licence.

As far as I know, MSN only charge for the ‘proper’ email addresses with large storabe accounts, msn messenger and the bog standard hotmail address’s are still free and even if you dont have msn messenger, you can still log into your email account via their website on your new computer or any other.

I connected 2 computers via a D link which you can buy from pc world £70 and then link the the old one to your new one…then you can get everything from the old one onto your new one…
Question…My son in law tells me you can get tv from your computer…if this is the case…do you still need a tv licence…■■
Annoys me when i pay SKY for their subscription…which includes BBC programs…and yet still have to pay for a licence to the bbc…it means i am paying twice…maybe a job for the eurocrats at the court of human rights…

I think the wording of the law is something along the lines of “any equipment capable of receiving a TV signal”

…so the answer is ‘Yes’ you do need an TV licence!

Having said that, if you look here you will see the smallest freeview adapter I have seen!! I am planning to get one of those to go with my laptop when on my UK travels; slightest knock on the door and it’ll unplug in a flash!!
