PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE PICTURE IS NOT COVERED BY COPYRIGHT
Find a picture you want to copy. - the one on facebook in your case
Right click on it.
Click SAVE PICTURE AS in the new opened window.
now save it on your PC - usually in MY PICS or similar
Now upload to your pic hosting site such as PhotoBucket.
now see the sticky near the top of this forum as to the max size etc for using it as a avatar 
THERE IS ANOTHER WAY -
Find a picture you want to copy.
Right click on it.
Click PROPERTIES at the bottom of the new opened window.
About half way down the window you will see URL
Highlight the (sometimes very long) URL starting at the http end and copy it.
To close the window click CANCEL
To put it on here
Now upload to your pic hosting site such as PhotoBucket but opt for the upload from a URL and not from your PC - the URL of the pic you copied is pasted into url address upload box in PB
Remember to choose the correct upload size for an avatar - the sticky at the top of this forum will inform you as to the max size etc and how to use it as an avatar.
