Help Please :-Cab Fridge repair

Hi All,

the Fridge in my unit (Magnum :unamused: ) has packed in it has power too it but just won’t get cold.

I have spoken to Renault who don’t repair they just replace and want wait for it :-

£640 + Vat for the fridge + Labour :open_mouth:

Does anyone know of a repair company in the UK (household guys don’t seem interested) or alternatively have you reapired yourself and could give me a few pointers.

Thanks in advance for any responses ( positive ones that is , not cable tie your milk to the mirrors  )

I am no expert but it could be the thermostat.

You can take a look on here for a portable one.

mobilegas.co.uk/mobilecoolbox/

Check with any local companies that repair vehicle air conditioning, they sometimes do fridges as well.

It might just need re-gassing or a service to check for split hoses or faulty connections.
Have you tried asking the local Car air conditioning specialists (its much the same thing (fridges and vehicle air-con.)

Are there any mates you know who operate fridge vans?
Ask them who does their service and repair work, it will be a fairly local service engineer who is more often than not allowed to take his fully kitted-out Transit home, due to the 24 hour call out nature of his job.
He might be interested in a ‘foreigner’ for cash for a couple of hours work one evening or on a Sunday morning. :sunglasses:

Thats how I did it anyway… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Fellas,

I took the actual manufacturer name of the fridge and the part number so will call them for a replacment on Monday its got to be a ■■■■ sight cheaper than Renault.

Harry, Ive got a portable one for camping etc. and they are useful but take up a fair bit of room, If the top bunk on a renault was solid then I would stick it on the bottom bunk and sleep up top to save moving gear but they are the hamock type and not the comfiest things to sleep on.

If the compressor is running, then I’d go along with the suggestion that it just needs re-gassing.

If the ‘home appliance’ guys aren’t interested, and I can’t see why (same principle of operation), then find a frindly Carrier or ThermoKing engineer, or an independant.

Well I borrowed a multi meter off a guy onsite this morning, within 5 mins worked out that it was the temperature control, disconnected the wires and joined them together and bingo working fridge.

Trouble is I just went to make a cuppa and my milk has frozen so its on the roof at the moment thawing out. :unamused:

No spares availble from Renault so anyone got any ideas on what I could use to replace the original Temperature knob

They tend to be fairly standard components. Just because it is a different voltage, doesn’t meant that it has been specifically designed for that voltage.

Try your local back street repairer/supplier. If you show them the unit, they’ll normally find something that will match the purpose.

Try RS Components, theres loads on their web site,
rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/rswww/home. … cheID=ukie

Or if you can get a number or make off the thermostat, do a google search just with the number, it will find a website listing that part number, its worked for car/truck parts loads of times.
Happy hunting
