Simon:

I hope thats a compliment Orys

In fact, it meant nothing. Are we allowed to post some meaningless words here?

Thanks for that video - a great help for first-timers like me

No worries- next time I ship Dover-Calais I am going to film the procedure from arriving at the dock, through booking on, to arriving at the lane from where you board the ship, I reckon that might be helpful for first-timers too.

and if you are going into switzerland from france could you do a video of how to clear at the border, like which sour faced customs man gets which bit of paper

Well, this is the miserable, squinty-eyed, big-nosed, comedy-bearded specimen on the French side who stamps your Carnet…

And here’s my boy getting the Transit Tax. Don’t forget the maschine has no brain…

Rather like the witty Swiss chap who printed out the notice

 no one will tell you what window or person you need to hand papers in to,and the same in chiasso, with maybe a whole line of people behind who do know what to do but dont speak english  been through a few times and never really knew what the bits of paper were really for ,sometimes i handed them in in a folder and the customs stamped what he wanted and sometimes i just got it shoved back and the window shut until i held up the one they wanted.

Going into Swiss at St Louis, to deliver at least, (I think transiting is the same but I’m not sure)
get your tax
queue at any Transit window in the Swiss Customs building, (no need to go to the French any more, with standard general goods)
say good morning / afternoon / evening (as appropriate) and hand over your T-Forms and tax
wait patiently
hopefully all is in order and you’ll receive everything back, stamped up and with your total number of T-Forms noted on the back of one t-form. This note will also be stamped and initialled.
drive around to the final check booth, usually in front of the French customs building
say good morning / afternoon / evening (as appropriate) and hand over your T-Forms and tax
wait patiently
again, hopefully everything is still in order and you are handed it all back
away you go

hey all, firstly, many thanks again for all the help and advice that was passed on and given, the trip was a good one, with no problems at all, i went via enschede border, straight across germany to berlin, up to poland, had 2 and half days off while gig was on, then back same way, since then, ive used the maut to go from basel to hannau, and also hannau to somewhere on czech border (on way to hradec kralove) no problems at all, allthough i was lucky and didnt have to divert at all, allthough i was suprised that every services and autohof had maut machines in them which made things very easy indeed, so once again thanks to u all. :grimacing:
p.s, i will do a diary soon for the trip, but im having real problems with the photbucket thing on here, so i’ll have a read throught the stickys and sort it out, but i warn u in advance, like many rookies to an exciting job, i got home and virtually all the photos i took are of the dodgy old rigid i used for the job!

Stop making excuses, n post that diary.

You’ve had nearly a week now :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

thanks very much for all your wisdom and guidance gents, very much appreciated, going to be taking lots of pictures over the next 6 weeks, so once i figure out the way round putting them on here, cheers all, mj

Easy. Download them onto your PC by plugging in the SD card into the SD card reader, or use the USB lead to connect your camera to your PC. (You have to have downloaded the CD that came with your camera first)

Then open an account at photobucket.com/ or some other photo host, it’s free and quick. Click ā€œUPLOADā€ and browse your PC for the images, then upload them.

When they have uploaded, you will see four sets of code beneath each picture, the bottom one will look like this and is marked IMG CODE.

Now, the reason the code is showing, and not a picture is that I have removed the last bracket- ]- and this has broken it. If I put the bracket back and post it again…

Voila! A picture of a numpty being craned out of a ditch in rural mid-Wales!

hey harry, thanks for that, after sittin an havin a think about it and a trial and error session, ive got it figured out, what was messin it up was when i clicked the img button to get the 2 sets of brackets, then copied and pasted, i was gettin another set in capitals, so deleted them, and hey presto, it works, so no more cursin, and shoutin at computers!, diarys to follow!)
