Help needed for the Chat room!

Hiya,
Try this,
Right click on Internet Explorer, select Properties/Advanced. Scroll down until you see the check boxes for Java, if they aren’t checked check them and try again. Needs a restart.

A firewall shouldn’t have any effect on this stuff as far as I can see. I’ve been using Norton AV and Firewall for the last two years and had no problem. All the might do is ask you if it’s ok for the program to connect to the internet.

Good luck.

I’ve had no probs with chat either and I’me running a firewall.

My firewall is from Tiny, I got it free with P C Answers mag a few months ago. It did ask me if it was ok to let the chat client through. I only remembered the last bit because I’ve been setting up my new tower and software etc.

Sorry that this wo’nt be much help really but I’ve never had any probs with the chat. You often need to do a bit of lateral thinking, to tie up the firewall accept/deny window, with what you are doing. Just read it all carefully and consider what you have just done.

you can get Java download from here…

java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

I have tried several times to go into the chat room on the TruckNetUK site, but it says I havent got my Java enabled, but Its not in my internet options, under the advanced heading…

Anybody got any ideas??

I’m using XP, and have been told that I have to download it… Tried that, but to no avail, still cant find it to enable it…

Cheers

Andy, are you running a firewall?

I had exactly the same problem and eventually discovered that the firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro) was configured to block any Java thingies, also pictures, flash doodahs, animations, etc.

I am running Norton Internet security, but I have disabled it, whilst, and during the download and install, coz I thought it might be stopping something, but this hasnt helped… :frowning:

Cheers

In the same boat Andy, can only ever get in if its empty…which is a bonus for everyone else of course!

Mal.

Cough… well if yer firewall is kicking up a rumpus and not allowing you to go somewhere… It’s doing its job k? :sunglasses:

Open Internet Explorer then go to Tools and select Internet Options from the drop down menu. Now select the advanced tab and click on Restore Defaults. If that doesn’t work it’s probably your Norton settings. Look at your ‘Personal Firewall Settings’ and make sure Java hasn’t been blocked. I think you have three options
None= Allow all Java
Medium = Prompt me each time
High = Block all Java

Before I post that I can’t get into the chatroom…can anyone tell me…where is it■■? x

Has anyone ever been into this chatroom? with someone else I mean!

I have been here a few months now, I know where it is, I know how they work but I never manage to go there with other peoples.

Sort of defeats the object of a CHAT ROOM doesnt it? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ob the chat room is here. There is a post with the details at the top of the list in the PDF.

Wheel Nut, I’ve been in there many times wihen others are in there, best times are Friday and Saturday nights especially after nine, usually a few in then and we have had 15 - 20 in on many an occasion.

Ok so I’ve found the chat room and tried it and couldn’t get in cos of this Java thingy. So, not being one to be beaten, I’ve downloaded the Java from the link, (thanks Shedender) and finally, after what seemed like hours of download, got myself into the chatroom. And guess what? There was no-body there!!! x

OB when someone goes into chat, they will/should/might leave a message in the PD forum!! Saturday night after 9.30 they is always people in!! and on some Friday nights people are there but wait till about 9.30ish!!

I can feel a display of gross stupidity coming on…but
What does one put in the ‘profile’ bit?

Well…I did warn you… :open_mouth: x

Just leave it blank OB no one use’s that bit!!

Just put your name in any name you want it keeps people guessing :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

Andy,
Im running Windows XP too, with the McAfee firewall. Could you please tell me where you got the download from and Ill try it on my computer
Best Regards
Trevor
