That’s how self-centred he is - it looks more like they were throwing it at the blue car overtaking him.
Shame it bloody missed him though
Squiddy:
Trucks should be banned from city centres cos they kill too many cyclists. Apparently over 40% of those deaths are due to a truck turning left. Surprise surprise I wonder why that isI was defending the cycle brigade till I came across this …
road.cc/content/news/27567-lorri … esearchers
Great idea. Ban trucks from all cities and replace each truck with 20 angry white van men
Best and most reasonable way of reducing accidents between lorries and cyclists in city centres, and reduce problems between the two in general…make the cycling proficiency test a qualification all cyclists must have by law before being allowed to use the roads.
Why is any tom, ■■■■ or henrietta allowed to jump on a cycle (which they don’t have to prove is in road worthy condition) and take it onto our busy roads without having had to prove that they are an able cyclist and understand the highway code? Why does being an “eco champion” make you exempt from any blame or responsibility when accidents happen? Its always the motorists fault for not being aware of the cyclist, never the cyclists for not being aware of what they are doing.
Its a farse.
An educated cyclist would know about the blind spots on lorries and that they are unlikely to be seen when riding along their nearside. If all cyclists plodding around city centres knew this and how to behave around HGVs safely, there would be far less incidents.

Let’s see him defend that one then!

I tend to see a difference between cyclists (proficient) and cycle riders (pedestrians on 2 wheels) in the same way as I see the difference in a driver (with a licence) and a person who drives (without a licence) - both are often reffered to a drivers but the level of competency between the two is massive

ROG, the main difference is the lycra clad crew who see it as their god given right to ride two abreast and never give way … and the ‘general people just going about their business’ crew who keep out of your way.
The lycra clad crew are the BMW equivalent of bike riders … loads of pointless kit on their bike, spent £ thousands on their bike and are just posers. The OP falls in this catagory. Biking is a hobby and they inject all their arrogance in to their hobby.
The rest of us keep to the cycle lanes, and don’t have any flashy add ons to our practical, but road worthy bikes. We use the pavement when it is safe to do so. We are the Ford Focus of the biking world, we don’t set out to annoy road users.
Magnatom here again
Am i on your ignore list here aswell
Anyway, when do we get to see some mistakes of YOUR riding then Magnatom? Or does someone with a helmet cam need to be around to catch that? Or do you never make mistakes?

Hey, respect to the bus driver! That was a perfect bit of parking in front of the white 4x4

Wasn’t it just, certainly can’t take it away from him for effort.
I used to be able to pull that type of parking with an old Mk2 ■■■■■■ (usually!) but a bus is impressive!!!
magnatom:
You see this is the problem. Why do people think I ‘go looking’ for trouble. I don’t. I cycle to and from work.
This always fascinated me. I used to cycle everywhere in Poland (which has much worse record for cyclist’s safety than UK), and I noticed a corelation that more someone is a kind of “cyclist rights activist” (i put it in comas deliberately, I mean this warriors of “it’s my right” and everyghing) the more trouble other road users are for him. And more considerate rider he is, the less problems with drivers he seems to have…
I used to work for a student’s media and I was once making a reportage from the Critical Mass (I don’t know if you have it in Glasgow, it’s an event while cyclists make some arrangements and all drive the same route at the same day and time to wind up drivers by completely blocking the road during the rush peak and then they claim that it’s to make drivers aware of their problem). I struggled to find anyone decent and balanced to make my interview with, if I could find someone I like you, I would be really happy, but unfortunately there was just a bunch of muppets climbing one on the another head to tell me how evil the drivers are to them. Not a single one was refering to cars other way that “blachosmrody” what I could try to translate to English as something like “stinky cans on wheels”…
They were really angry when I pointed out that for someone who demands his right to be respect so loudly, they could pay more attention to if they respect their duties first (nearly half of the bikes had no lights even though the event finished well after darkness). They just started to shout at me, so I left and then put it all in the article.
For the next several months I had to take my bicycle inside the buildings everytime I needed something in the town, or to ride tramway if that wasn’t possible, as I had my tires slashed 4 times…
So this is not only the drivers who are agressive, the other side is pretty much the same.
And as much as most drivers are normal people, who just happen to make some mistake, so do are most of cyclists. Most of my cycling friends did not turned up on the Critical mass and they never do, as they have similar opinion on that event to mine. And we all do not fit there. Why? What we do have in common?
It’s that we don’t consider riding a bike on the road as consannst struggle with the enemy and balancing on the edge of live and death. We ride bicycles reasonable, trying to be visible and show our intentions. We don’t think like “I do have right to occupy the whole lane” and if there is a bus lay be for example, we pull in to let the traffic pass. To my surprise I am always let back on the road without any problem when the lay be is finished…
And this brings me to the point: If we treat other with respect, they will do the same to us. If we show them that we do own the road, their response will be analogical.
So as I do respect other drivers when cycling I can’t say that I feel in such danger as you when on the road. Maybe some can see me as someone who harm some kind of “cyclist pride” by letting the cars pass when I have right to sit right in the middle of the only lane with 5 miles queue behind me, but I value more mutual respect on the road than my “rights”.
Off course, there are some people who do some mistakes - but we all do. And you can never be sure what will happen…
I once “hit” a cyclist before I even managed to start the engine
poteflon.pl/100916
I was parked in that lay-by on “Na Grobli” street and the cyclist was going from the bridge. He was going much to fast so he did not made it on the corner and he crashet in my car’s front, damaging my bumper, number plate and then wing mirror. I checked if he is all right (he was) I asked if he will cover my damages (he pullet over his wallet and we agreed a sum he paid me on the spot) and I offered him ride home, as his bike was no longer able to ride (he refused, I think he was too embaressed, he just took his cycle on the arm and walked away).
So I could made a perfect story and post it on the internet to show how stupid cyclists are, how they ride on the pedestrian brifdge than entering the road without checking not only if there any vehicles moving, but even if they aren’t any parked vehicles around the bend.
But I didn’t. This makes no sense, this won’t improve safety or nothing. The guy learned his lesson, he covered my damages (It even turned out that he paid me even too much, but I never exchanged any names with him, so did not managed to find him back, so paid the rest to the charity), noone was harmed, maybe except the guys pride and my paintwork
So although I see your observations are valid, I see no point in that battle you lead.
I tell you more: If you reported me to my boss, he would propably firstly kill you with his laughter, saying that he’s not my nanny. Then if he would ask me if I wish to be contacted by you and I agree, what that matters for me?
If I cut you, I propably never saw you, so what’s the point in showing me a video that some weeks ago you were there? How that should improve my driving?
If I see the cyclist, I give him plenty of room, much more than average driver (unless he’s one of that annoying sobs who thinks that they have right to drive on the middle of the only line for miles and miles, then I will pass you as soon as I find it safe, but not necessarly comforatble for you ). So I don’t need to be taught about it.
If I haven’t seen a cyclist and I cut him too early, as he was in my blind spot or something, what does it change that you show me a movie that I did not noticed you X weeks ago?
You said that you have interesting life and loved family… So don’t waste your life on such things!
And just last point: You might be right. But it is worth dying for? Sometimes it’s just worth to back off…
Orys, you win, my friend. The best post that has been on this thread…

Well, just need to kill some time, had some spare few hours before the place I deliver is opened, so as it’s close to my place, I am parked up under my window and wonder if it’s worth to go to sleep for three hours or not

As we seem to like video clips from cycle riders…
Junction of Woodlands Road and Oaklawn Road Leatherhead. The driver’s obviously not used to driving out of London and probably learnt to drive on the streets of Wandsworth, where the Jamaican highway code applies, not Surrey.
Luckily it was’nt a Hayabusa or an R1 on the way to Box Hill cafe.
