This is how I’d mark the back of the tacho. Put on the back that you forgot to put the tacho in the head. On the back will be some numbers and a load of lines going from 0 to 24 (or their is on the one I’m looking at :unamused:). Their are at the beginning and end of the clock “face” the break symbol, the other work symbol and the crossed hammers - their’s an additional one I’m not quite sure of and have never used :unamused:. Use the bed and the box to mark out in fine felt tip pen what you were doing between 17.00 and when you pulled into the services at 18.15 - ie end daily rest at 17.00, other work and driving. I assume you wern’t on break at any time and took the driving time up to the services out of your first period. You should mark them out by putting a line for the correct timespan corresponding with the correct symbol. This should suffice, although someone will correct me if I’m wrong . Hope this doesn’t sound too much like gobbeldygooke :open_mouth::lol:.

BTW, Welcome to TruckNet UK .

When this sort of thing happens again, always write on the reverse of the chart what happened, as well as what Liberace has told you to do, before you insert the chart.
No defence can be claimed retrospectively. so if it’s there & you get stopped, you have still committed the offence but you have a defence, if it’s not you don’t.
Courts normally allow for human error, but if when the chart is inspected & retained by an authorised person (Police or VOSA), if that defence is there, then the probability is they will winge a bit but not prosecute.
We all make mistakes & don’t worry we have all made them with tacho’s.

Pretty much been covered. Manual Entry and an explantion. And Don’t worry to much. If 99% of your cards are in order then the odd mistake and explantion won’t normally worry VOSA, maybe a bit of a warning.

Remember if you make a mistake the worst thing you can do is try and cover it up, thats really frowned upon, just be honest and hope they accept your explanation.

Thats the problem with tachos…they are evidence (in most cases) as i always say…no evidence…no prosecution…i would have started my shift at 18.15…(naughty boy).

But in 15 mins there could (in theory) be 22.5kms missing from the vehicle’s records. That’s a hell of a lot of yard shunting!!

15 mins @ 90km/h = 22.5 kms

Im with trucky boy, id pul over stick the tacho in and get on with it.

I would write “Forgot to put chart in” and record your activity for the missing time manually.

Don’t worry, you would never in a million years face prosecution for a simple one-off mistake like this.

When I first started on class 2 I was sent on a run to Cornwall. On the way down I had a couple of drops at Taunton and just got to Exeter services with 1 minute to spare. Had 45 mins then off down to Bodmin for a couple more drops. I managed to scrape in at Exeter for the night with 4 mins to spare. Fantastic, I was well chuffed I’d pulled it off!
It was only when I took my tacho out I realised I had actually put an already used tacho in  Gutted!
Well, I did have to start early early that morning (that’s my excuse).
