Help and Advice please

I am told tomorrow I have to use a Splitter Trailer and both deliveries are on the same site. I am on agency so no one has told me how to use a Splitter Trailer.

Any Step by Step guide would be great or a Video showing me what to do please ? Would be a great help. I’m used to containers, believe it or not in the last Year on Class 1 containers (used to do Class 2) I have never used a Splitter I must of been Lucky ? [emoji23]

I found this but it’s not in English

Any help appreciated thank you. It will already be loaded when I get into work I’m told

I think I can figure it out from that Video just wasn’t sure what buttons he was pressing

Get arsey…

With your agency, either they ensure proper training on unfamiliar equipment or, they can find you another job for the day.
Despite many years of being a box jockey, I have no experience of splitter’s but, I do know that stuff can go wrong if you don’t know what you’re doing.

It’s not an un-reasonable request.

If you don’t know how to couple and uncouple it then don’t drive it, otherwise how are you to know if it is in a safe condition to drive or not? Personaly I would not touch it without any training. It is unreasonable for anyone to expect you to take this out on the public road with no prior knowledge. As the post above states, ask for training or move on.

I’ve seen them a few times out and about, especially when I used to pull boxes, but never used one myself. They look a bit of a faff, but like a lot of things (tankers and moffetts spring to mind) they’re probably quite simple once you get used to them and know what you’re doing. But I agree with the other sentiments expressed here. I personally wouldnt even move it from one end of a yard to another, let alone take it out on the open road.

Simple, its a no no due to not having any tuition. ask for another job

Just catch a driver in the yard and ask him to show you. You’ve got a tongue in your head haven’t you?

Remember to disconnect lines/leads before splitting…

Never been a problem for me in 25 years thrown in at the deep end at various agency clients with equipment I’ve never used before. Always found that if you approach people in the right manner they are more than happy to show you how it all works and give you various tips to make it easier/things to be watch out for. Or failing that, what’s the issue with telling the agency that you’ve not used them before, please ask your client to have someone available to give me a brief demo of how they come apart and go back together? In short: use your brains.

Speak for yourself :bulb: . No problems here.

You don’t come across as a fountain of knowledge if I am being honest, nor do you appear to be a particularly aproachable type either.

Similar to other responses, I have worked many years in containers, but have no experience of splitter trailers.
If no specific advice is forthcoming, although it should come from source, I would advise a logical aporoach.
Handbrake, legs down, disconnect couplings, and then find splitter connection. Will probably be air operated, so button or switch will be marked accordingly.
First opportunity, complain about assumption that driver will be familiar with what is essentially a niche piece of equipment. (Because they are too pricey, and too heavy probably!).

It’s rather straightforward but you probably should have someone show you.

Put the full 40 foot trailer where the rear section needs to be unloaded. Make sure its fairly level and you have enough access to remove your unit and front section, plus put them back together.

Pull brakes on rear section. Wind down both legs on the rear section (assuming people will be going in the container). Remove air lines. Push the button to release the pins.

Pull forward slightly, check the front section of the trailers suspension is clear, raise/lower and pull away.

Repeat the reverse to couple back up.

Says the guy who can’t even manage to drive from Hull to Gatwick without rumning bent    . I don’t think you’re in a good position to cast judgement on others’ alleged shortcomings :bulb: . As for not being aproachable*[sic]*, I don’t suffer thick people lightly (which is a strong indicator of why you get the reception that you do). I think my ‘foe’ list is overdue an additon or two to help solve these problems.

Really sorry to read this. No idea of what I will do if you carry out this threat,

Hopefully take the hint and spare the other members.

Only one way of sparing the other nmembers mate. Is for you to add us all onto your foe list.

If everybody took this forum as serious as he did by actually bothering to take the time to put people on his famous… ‘‘Foe list’’ :unamused: (‘‘my foe list’’ ffs   )
He’d be blisfully talking to himself on here, as everybody would deffo have HIM on theirs.
Thing is from what I hear and read, nobody actually takes his rants, arrogance and belligerence seriously so we all just choose to suffer him with amusement instead.
